10·2 months agoI researched your claims because I was curious about this having never heard about any of this.
What I found is that “against trans rights” seems to come solely or mostly from a leaked text message that I’m guessing you’re referring to.
I found this article which looked at his overall record: https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2024/10/rep-ruben-gallego-a-champion-for-lgbtq-rights-in-congress/ and it’s overall positive including on trans rights.
As for the leaked text message it seems the original source was here: https://humanevents.com/2025/11/25/exclusive-reuben-gallegos-leaked-texts-mocking-appearance-of-democrat-women-revealed (archive link so you don’t have to give the website your click https://archive.is/yaSNB)
That’s from Jack Posobiec’s (trump supporter) website. Reading what Gallego actually wrote I must confess while I’m not completely on board what he’s saying I do kind of understand where he’s coming from. Some people have the perhaps false impression that Democrats are focused on correcting people for minor things but a lot of that is because of right-wing propaganda ex: from Fox.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL the last person imprisoned under the Witchcraft Act 1735 was in 1941, A medium claimed to have spoken to the crew of the battleship HMS Barnam, whose sinking had not been made publicEnglish
91·2 months agoWikipedia says:
The Witchcraft Act 1735 (9 Geo. 2. c. 5) was an act of the Parliament of Great Britain in 1735 which made it a crime for a person to claim that any human being had magical powers or was guilty of practising witchcraft. With this, the law abolished the hunting and executions of witches in Great Britain. The maximum penalty set out by the act was a year’s imprisonment.
It thus marks the end point of the witch trials in the Early Modern period for Great Britain and the beginning of the “modern legal history of witchcraft”, repealing the earlier Witchcraft Acts which were originally based in an intolerance toward practitioners of magic but became mired in contested Christian doctrine and superstitious witch-phobia.
So likely actually she got charged for claiming she has magical powers since the law says that it’s a crime for a person (which I assuming includes yourself) to claim that someone has magical powers.

2·2 months agoI’m very grateful you do that! It does all add up. Hopefully Democrats can start having real conversations with other people, I don’t mean trying to change the most die-hard MAGA-type person but there are lots of people who don’t think much about politics, are undecided or independent. If we can reach those people in masses I think it could start causing a shift from red to blue and hopefully it’s enough to save our country.

52·2 months agoThe difference between a blue state and red state is often times just a few percentage points of voting. This is not a good idea. Also there are so many amazing Democrats who have no choice but to live in red states. Moving is really expensive. Will you be willing to pay everyone’s moving expenses? How will we afford a home or apartment in another state? Will we all have jobs? You will hurt a countless number of people if this happens.

28·2 months agoThe only thing people should be giving up is their Amazon Prime subscriptions and AWS hosting. You’re very likely getting ripped off and overcharged if you use AWS. Also although I recommend ordering from other websites if you have no choice but to use Amazon you don’t need Prime for free shipping, just wait until you have enough stuff in your cart such that you’re over the free shipping threshold. Don’t order unnecessary stuff to get over the threshold.

I remember Brave was popular among MAGA-type people during Trump’s first term. I suspect it’s likely the same.
The logo has a striking resemblance to one I remember seeing on a big pro-Trump community. It’s described here https://www.vox.com/2019/8/29/20838289/trump-fascist-lion-head-bull-testicles-video-twitter basically the logo is associated with Mussolini.
In addition if you check the Wikipedia article you’ll notice this:
In August 2016, the company had received at least US$7 million in angel investments from venture capital firms, including Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund, Propel Venture Partners, Pantera Capital, Foundation Capital and the Digital Currency Group.[13]
Moreover some right-wing type people expressed their “solidarity” with Brendan Eich for his anti LGBT stance so they used Brave.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL about “Second Screen Viewing” and that Netflix pushes writers to make scripts and dialogues simpler to keep viewers who are on their phones engagedEnglish
3·2 months agoPeople should try reading more books and watch less TV/streaming precisely for this reason. Also maybe if you want to watch a movie consider watching older movies.
This is a fascinating article/podcast that talks about this but is focused on how it impacts your attention span and has data: https://www.apa.org/news/podcasts/speaking-of-psychology/attention-spans
Mark: So I was very surprised to learn that TV and film shot lengths have decreased over the years. They started out much longer. They now average about four seconds a shot length. That’s on average. If you watch MTV music videos, they’re much shorter. They’re only a couple of seconds. So we’ve become accustomed to seeing very fast shot lengths when we look at TV and film. Even commercials have shortened in length. Commercials used to be much longer. Now it’s not uncommon to see six-second commercials, even shorter than that. Now it’s a chicken and egg question. We don’t know if TV and film have affected our attention spans on computers and phones. We don’t know if our attention spans have affected the decision-making of film editors and directors. We don’t know exactly if there is any causal connection we see these two parallel trends.
It could be the case that directors and editors are influenced by their own short attention spans when they create these film shots or it could be that they’re creating short film shots because they think that’s what the viewer wants to see. But this has become quite ubiquitous. In fact, on YouTube, there’s a particular YouTube aesthetic which uses jump cuts. So when you’re watching a YouTube film, the film becomes very jumpy. The natural pauses that people make when they speak it is removed. So the idea is to pack more content into a shorter amount of time. So we’re seeing short lengths of content from all directions. It’s not just what we’re attending to on computers and phones.

politics @lemmy.world•Fox News Flunkies that Once Condemned Trump’s January 6th Rioters Have Totally Abandoned RealityEnglish
18·2 months agoIt’s not shocking. Fox news always lies. That’s why I wish everyone would just shut it off. If you see a TV playing that crap like at the gym or a waiting room ask them to change the channel or change it yourself. Especially if you’re alone in the room you can even edit the channel list and remove Fox or add parental control and block the channel. Universal remotes or a smartphone with a USB-C IR blaster can let you control almost any TV. Or even simpler if the TV has physical buttons or the cable box has buttons just press those and to change the channel. This is all TV dependent of course but just food for thought.

This is directly contradicted not just by the article but also by the headline.
Just to remind you the headline was “Gov. Tim Walz encourages Minnesotans to film ICE agents for future prosecutions” emphasis added.
The first part of the article says:
