I love young people. My volunteer little sister just graduated and I used to work with trafficking victims. Listening to young people one-on-one is important and rewarding, I hope for both of us.

Reading a hasty thought from someone who doesn’t even know who they are yet every 30 seconds on the Internet on websites like reddit, where people skew really young, and taking that extremely seriously is not enjoyable, for adults or for them. And unfortunately, whatever stupid thing people say gets preserved on the Internet for WAY too long, all the more reason to disregard it quickly, but people really struggle with that online.

I still want to read bad takes, that’s not the issue here

I had one of those less than stellar childhoods, but I had a fantastic grandparent that would take me to McDonald’s sometimes, and that was A HUGE BRIGHT SPOT for me, back when they had aquariums and play places in them? Like, until pretty recently, I was a die-hard fan. I WANTED to like them. What they actually tasted like almost didn’t matter, the SIGHT of the yellow arches made me start to think about what being loved by a trusted adult feels like.

Yeah personally I’m kind of, like, impressed. I keep hearing that kids these days are so used to frictionless devices that they have no problem-solving skills whatsoever when it comes to tech, but, today’s kids actually aren’t that different than yesterday’s.

AIM is gone, I was actually there when the servers shut down! Signal or telegram I think would be the closest to an AIM-like experience, but I’ve never seen or heard of any children using them.
