Was this comment paid by the Kansas Republican Party?

Americans were bombarded with Trump ads lambasting Kamala Harris for having endorsed free gender-transition surgery for prisoners and immigration detainees.

What makes this all so maddening is that those obstacles were placed there by well-meaning progressives.

The Trump ad describes an answer Harris gave on an ACLU candidate questionnaire five years ago. (“As President will you use your authority to ensure that transgender and nonbinary people who rely on the state for medical care — including those in prison and immigration detention — will have access to comprehensive treatment associated with gender transition, including all necessary surgical care?” Answer: yes.).

I’m sure neither the ACLU nor the Harris staffers who cooperated in this response set out to seed Republican attack ads. Yet a large portion of the work of the progressive nonprofit complex is functionally dedicated to this very outcome.

Americans are broadly supportive of equal rights for trans people. That support does not quite extend to allowing trans athletes to compete in women’s sports, or to medicalizing transitions for children. Trans Activists pushing Democrats to take incredibly unpopular positions isn’t a good thing.

Here is the thing about Republican politicians. A big chunk of their voters don’t care they vote against labor rights, cut taxes on big corporations or slash Medicaid/Medicare. Many get elected primarly on cultural issues. They campaign arguing democrats are anti-american anti-police islamic freaks with blue hair. Don’t give them ammo to shoot at you.

You need to leave your local college campus.

In a place like Iowa or Kansas, it actually decreases your chance of winning.

I don’t think James Talarico wants to see trans people rounded up and killed.

The Roosevelt coalition that passed the New Deal included everyone from Communist sympathizers to Southern white supremacists.

To be successful, the Democratic Party needs to be a big tent.

In North Carolina, Roy Cooper is campaigning by promising to crack down on crime. In Michigan, Democrats are running Dr. Abdul El Sayed, who is a progressive. In Kansas, the candidate is a megachurch pastor. In Nevada, Jacky Rosen is pro-Israel. In Georgia, Jon Ossoff criticized the defund the police movement.

What matters isn’t that these people agree on every issue. What matters is that they agree on taxing corporations, improving healthcare and holding Trump accountable

Elections are a game of addition, not subtraction. Forcing purity tests alienates independent voters who might otherwise support the party on core issues.

“Progressives keep winning”

A progressive winning in New York City is very easy.

Don’t get me wrong. I like Zohran Mamdani or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. But could they actually win in Texas? In Nebraska? In Iowa? That’s a real question.

Look at the Senate race in Michigan.

• The President is unpopular.
• Gas prices are at a record high
• He started a trade war with Canada.

It should be an easy win for Abdul El Sayed. Yet the race is extremely tight.

You are letting them off the hook easily. They are responsible for a lot more.

Mike Rogers cosponsored bills to ban mifepristone, the most common abortion drug in the U.S. He has voted repeatedly against allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices.
