In my experience, it depends on if they genuinely hate all men or not. When you see the opposite gender as an enemy you need to defeat, you stop seeing them as people. From there, it’s easy to apply that toxicity to other people of your gender that you see as traitors to your cause. You start to judge everyone by their adherence to gender roles, even if you see yourself as smarter than others who uphold the patriarchy. That is the nature of an incel regardless of if their gender.
That said, I anecdotally find that sapphics are rarely incels, even if they get no bitches. It’s easier to not be consumed by your resentment of men when you don’t even need date them (note, that this is distinctly different from political lesbians who are only sapphic for ideological reasons; those people are trash). Even if one casually thinks all men are trash, they aren’t forced into conflict with men unless those men approach them first. I suspect it’s the same with gay men who are lonely; even when they are misogynistic, it’s not as much of a problem.

15·2 months agoMy personal opinion is that Rimu doesn’t think b he’s trying to become king of the fediverse. I think he sees himself as a progressive fighting back against ideas, people, and movements that threaten his idea of progress. He likes that blog post so much because it positions the free and voluntary association inherent to federation as a right wing idea, something that needs order imposed upon it by a liberal democratic institution (“like the UN”). If it’s right wing to be decentralized, him trying to create a centralized authority is left wing.
I’m of the opinion that people usually believe what they say, and Rimu is no different. Why else would he share such an embarrassing article thinking it makes some convincing point? His thinking is liberal to the core, and he does not understand paradigms without centralized authority regulating behavior. It’s no wonder he doesn’t like the anarchist instances.
At the same time, belief that you aren’t power grabbing does not prevent someone from power grabbing. I don’t think Rimu will give up in the long run. Even if this episode is a loss that does more to lose allies than gain them, he is still gonna keep doing what he has been doing. He can’t use piefed to mandate his philosophy on moderation without alienating more people. He’ll never get his idea of a fediverse UN off the ground, both with how he’s acted and because many instances would never agree to something like it. If he properly reads the room, he’ll be quiet and wait for some better opportunity for mass defederation to show up. Either that or he’ll thrash around and create even more problems for himself.

422·2 months agoRimu, this is your third time in a week starting shit with db0 admins. None of what you’ve done recently has inspired any confidence from me in you or your projects. Given the side you picked during the recent lemmy.world drama, your posts come across more like hitpieces than well thought out complaints.
Also, wtf is up with you calling the entire idea of decentralization into question? Internet services require resources to run, and the barrier to entry for hosting an instance is relatively low. It’s absurd to call instances feudal fiefdoms when anybody with a bit of time and disposable income can theoretically set one up. What is the alternative, all those “fiefdoms” needing to report to a monarch who will only use their power to protect marginalized groups from bigotry(trust me bro)?
What makes it especially egregious is that you aren’t simply a user or even an instance admin, but the head developer of an entire section of the fediverse. You are not a neutral party arguing ideals, you are a person who could theoretically try to crown yourself king. You focusing so much of your efforts on attacking instances that you have ideological problems with is worrying.
I wouldn’t trust an admin like that to protect me from bigotry on their server, nor would I want them to dictate moderation for instances on their platform. Since you seem so keen on highlighting how your instance bans fewer people than others, how could I trust you to not mandate tolerance of a “diversity of opinions” like another notable instance that gives fewer bans?

191·2 months agoIf that was all rimu was complaining about, I’d understand. Unfortunately, he has a more ideological motivation behind this post than simply calling out AI. If letting users decide for themselves if they like this style of moderation was all he was advocating for, then why is he promoting the idea of centralizing decentralized platforms?
I am unconvinced that this particular use of an LLM for moderation is really that helpful. However, I doubt this is the only motivation behind this post.

2·3 months agoI swear, erotador makes one small comment about being poly and it turns into a winding ass thread about the ethics of monogamy. I may be poly, but if I was in a relationship with the expectation of monogamy, I’d feel betrayed if they then broke that expectation without telling me. The problem wouldn’t be that they slept with someone, the problem would be that they lied. They would be free to be with whoever they want, but all of my relationships are contingent on open communication. If that communication isn’t there, then the agreement is broken.
It was never free and we were never brave.

15·6 months agoWe STILL haven’t even seen the worst of it. People consistently lacked the willingness to recognize that it could happen here, even when the threat was imminent. They don’t want to think unhappy thoughts, don’t want to think their world is crumbling, don’t want to acknowledge that things will never go back to how they were. It’s incredibly frustrating how much people delude themselves so they don’t need to stare into the void.

132·7 months agoTheir strategy is to give into Trump’s demands in the hopes that it prevents him from destroying their precious institutions. They hope to be able to take over from an unpopular Republican party after Trump dies without really undoing the damage he’s done. The problem with this approach is that it will prevent the system from needing to be properly rebuilt, effectively legalizing most of his abuses of power and prolonging the instability of our country. A big part of this will be institutionalizing the blatant corruption and oligarchy while further rigging elections to make it impossible for popular movements to ever legally gain power.
A Gavin Newsom or Pete Buttigieg presidency will see them ruling as a weaker feudal king than Trump, but only to promote business activity and interests. Relying on the honeymoon period following Trump’s removal, they will position themselves as the saviors of “democracy,” yet they will do little to actually undo a lot of the election rigging that Republicans are installing right now. They will suppress workers rights and throw the most disposable minorities under the bus, deregulating and burning through all the goodwill they have. They’ll parade the corpse of liberalism around as long as fools will believe it, but it will be a cynical gesture.
In order for actual liberal democracy to exist again in this country, the liberals would need to have shown a backbone and resist Trump no matter how much he destroys institutions. They would need to risk temporary jail time and potential assassination to invigorate long term support for a rebuilt American dream. Instead they’re showing that they never cared about liberal ideals, only the goodwill liberalism afforded their power.
