I’m just uncomfortable with the way that people are so eager to foster that in world. We shouldn’t have to see them misbehave before we apply what we learned from previous mistakes.
You’re preaching to the choir, but “for now” it’s acceptable to me.
We are always able to move communities to other instances should they misbehave, and that’s good enough to me.
Could be improved, of course, but not critical.
I feel the centralization of communities on WORLD is a far greater and thus more urgent issue for me.
Is it? Is there any level of power tripping similar to lemmy.ml?
Also
I suggest to have one topic per comment so that is is easier to discuss.
LW is already much more active than lemmy.ml (18k monthly active users vs 2.5k: https://fedidb.org/software/lemmy/), so the system is working, people have left for a less politically biased instance
If there’s a community that only exists there, be the change you want to see: create it somewhere else and give it time to grow. You’re not the only one making this complaint about .ml, and you probably wont’ be the last.
Maybe we should open a thread on !fedigrow@lemm.ee about this
Also there’s bit of a controversial topic lately that has made a certain demographic feel like this place is about as unwelcoming to them as much of the internet.
Genuinely asking, is it about the bear? I saw a post about it in !unpopularopinion@lemmy.world the other day, I felt sorry for women who encountered such toxicity
Test: @Blaze@lemm.ee
Not sure, might be, I’m too lazy to setup another LW account to find out ha ha.
Might also just be that it’s their way of avoiding political content from lemmygrad, hexbear and lemmy.ml
Alright, good to know! I see if I can find stuff to post there, but usually I post to !interestingasfuck@lemm.ee as there is some overlap, and the community got some traction a few days ago
@otter@lemmy.ca, I wanted to ask you about something: I posted to !til@lemmy.ca in the past, but it seems that now the community isn’t actively moderated, and on the other side !todayilearned@lemmy.world is getting a resurgence.
Do you think it is worth it trying to post to the lemmy.ca one, or should we go with the flow and post on the LW one to make it grow?
In ActivityPub, you have the freedom to defederate.
This bridge doesn’t allow you to do so, I can understand why people have issues with it.
It’s fine!
I really see where they come from, and why they prefer a strong moderation on this kind of topics. I guess it starts to get blurry once you have to define what is misinformation. Historical accuracy is hard to achieve (this is why I still go to /r/AskHistorians, and I linked a few threads in the other comments).
I saw some time ago a graph showing how the perception of the USSR changed a lot in Europe during the Cold War compared to just after WW2.
The following statements might be all true at the same time
Sometimes I’m wondering if those three statements can be compiled in a single comment and not instantly start a comment war with everyone trying to push their own agenda, and mods having to interfere following their own views.
