Technology@lemmy.world•As Microsoft Forces Users to Ditch Windows 10, It Announces That It’s Also Turning Windows 11 into an AI-Controlled MonstrosityEnglish
20·7 months agoI am forced to use Windows on my work computer, but that is ONLY used for official work related functions. My personal PCs (I have several) all run various flavors of Linux. Monday through Friday I am reminded why I don’t have Windows on my personal machines.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Has YouTube just blacklisted every Mullvad server in some countries?English
8·8 months agoI’ve heard from a couple of creators that some of their videos have just disappeared. Few will say much, and none on record, so I think Google is threatening them somehow. Note, the videos I watch on YT are not political or controversial in any way.

26·8 months agoWhy are people “buying” DRM infested books? They don’t own anything. “Their” books can be taken away at the whim of the seller. Their rights can change with a change to the EULA. There are other legal ways to use e-readers (not Kindles) that let you keep and back up what you buy.

Technology@lemmy.world•CATL says next-gen sodium-ion battery supports 500 km range, readies for 2026 mass productionEnglish
1·8 months agoThe numbers I’ve seen: LFP: mid 90s Sodium: low to mid 80s
LFP seems better for cars unless you live in an area that deals with extreme cold. Sodium is better (cheaper) for fixed, large quantity storage where energy density is not as critical and lower efficiency is an acceptable trade off for lower price.

Technology@lemmy.world•CATL says next-gen sodium-ion battery supports 500 km range, readies for 2026 mass productionEnglish
15·8 months agoThey are cheaper and the low temperature performance is better than LFP, but the round trip efficiency is less than LFP.
I used to make low 6 figures. Work owned me. I had to be reachable nights, weekends, holidays, vacations. 50 hour weeks were slow weeks. I finally walked away. Money is no good if you don’t have time to enjoy it. I make half of what I used to make but am much happier. I actually get to spend time with my wife, hobbies, and friends.
