Reconstruction ended early after Johnson took office and as a result we didn’t end segregation in the south until a century after the war ended.
There are people alive now who still remember segregation and some of them liked it that way. And now they’re empowered, both metaphorically and literally, thanks to the gerontocracy we’ve created.
We’re going to tear ourselves apart trying to undo 60 years of progress over the next 4 years.
I feel like if we pull through this as an intact nation it’s not going to be recognizable as the nation we grew up in until long after we’re all gone. It’s going to take generations to clean up this mess.

As an American, it would be a really good idea to temporarily kick the US out and make it the G6. We have absolutely no business driving policy with Trump at the wheel.

We also have no business being in NATO at the moment either.

It only tastes bitter to those of us who actually opposed it overseas too.
The people that supported that kind of behavior are reveling in this right now.

They barely won this time (even with possible tampering in PA) and 1/3 of registered Democrats and stayed home.
I’d be willing to bet the people are sufficiently motivated to get off their asses finally, so it’s unlikely they’ll give us the opportunity to flip the house and Senate next year.
So I’d wager no election in '26 and a rigged election in '28 because Trump will be too far gone to prop up by then.
