I think people are seeing now that our system of government is broken beyond repair. Maybe it will take more than 3 years but we need to change far more than who sits on the throne.

Personally I don’t support any electoral system where leaders have any more or less voting power than the votes they receive, so I’m not sure how that would be workable in your system. For example, the outlying group would have way more electoral power per person if each leader gets one vote.

I definitely think the US needs to split up. What’s the point of having another president though? Won’t we just end up with the same problem over time?

Or, hear me out: we abolish the presidency. There’s absolutely no need for so much power to be vested in one person.

The solution to all of these shenanigans is so obvious but no one discusses it.

We need a system where a rep’s voting power is exactly proportional to the number of votes they receive. No more, no less. Combined with multi-member districts, this would allow every vote to have a say.

Also, they chose a very weird comparison here by comparing the congressional makeup to presidential vote returns… why not use votes for congress instead???

Not really an excuse but it’s pretty common to be politically naive when you’re young. When Obama was first elected I just figured we’d immediately solve climate change and all get free healthcare and community college. I didn’t really understand how the political system worked.

I imagine many of these people thought the same way. And they may have been too young to really follow things during Trump 1.

So yeah… I wish they had been more savvy but we all gotta learn somehow. I’m willing to forgive if they end up on the right side after this.

I always hear people claim that this is due to declining reporting rates and the real crime rate is higher.

I personally doubt this but is there any analysis that investigates this question more deeply?

For me, 5 years ago, buying an EV seemed like a great idea, albeit one I couldn’t really afford. But then I realized I could just reduce my driving by 90% and achieve the same benefit while saving money. So I don’t really need an EV anymore now that I barely ever drive.

I don’t really agree with this. NPR did talk about the threat to democracy. The problem was it was old news at that point, and frankly, it doesn’t seem like most Americans cared that much. So this coverage didn’t get much attention.

The reality is that most Americans care more about their personal finances than the state of the country as a whole. This is the cause of many of our problems. I’m not sure NPR was going to be able to fix this issue through their coverage.

He was old and frail though. And the American public needed to know this.

If people had realized this sooner maybe we could have had a real primary with a strong candidate that could have beaten Trump.

Probably not. Appeasing their corporate overlords takes a lot of work.
