They won’t do it themselves. They can’t. They’ll just offer a worse forecast.
I didn’t read the post (sorry, it was too long and I’m tired) but the fediverse is equally suited to federated islands as to one fediverse, right? Most people will want the full fediverse but people can also create their separate spaces if desired.
Thanks, I assumed they were centrally created but if they are user customizable this does make it a bit more appealing, although at that point it’s not hugely different from the way subscriptions work now. Could have some use cases though.
Was that decided by shareholders or executives though? Two different groups of people with different agendas and ideologies, even though they might seem similar compared to an ordinary person.
Maybe I worded it poorly, I know I can still do my thing, but I’m explaining why I would never use this unless it excluded certain instances.
I don’t want to block the users though, I just don’t want to be subject to their authority. Which means I can’t use their communities. Combining them into one big bag subverts my autonomy to do so.
This doesn’t appeal to me at all. The whole point of Lemmy is that I can avoid certain instances that have oppressive admins.
I did not. I’ve been to several protests and did not take any “security precautions”, nor did most people there. It was completely safe with no reason to think there would be repression.
The point of mass resistance is that the state does not have the power to arrest us all. If they did then we would need to use different tactics. But resisting brazenly is a demonstration of power and makes such an outcome less likely in the future.
I’m just worried people won’t show up if it feels scary. And I personally think the risk of legal protest is extremely low at this point in time.
Sure, that could change at some point but there’s no sign of that currently.
Well-designed internet polls can be very useful for some purposes but these are very obviously not well designed.
I feel like this is making people unnecessarily afraid. Most protests do not require you to do anything special with your phone. If you expect more confrontational or destructive actions to be happening then this is a good idea but most protests I’ve been to are not like this.
Maybe his plan is we overthrow the tyrants attempting to seize complete control over our society.
I think it’s a cool feature. Newest version of Lemmy allows admins to block communities from appearing in all while still allowing subscriptions. I think this is the best approach, although it would be nice if this could be done in a more automated fashion instead of admins having to expand the list as more rss feeds are added.
Not really comparable since the whole US government is complicit.
Won’t they just ignore emails from non-.gov addresses?
Sounds like a win win.
The infrastructure is already built. What funding is needed? It’s just revenue collection at this point.
What are the limits of his access?
Would be better to plan this a little farther out but I am already on a permanent boycott so I support this obviously.
