I’m not in tech at all, I’ve just learned to use my operating system over time. It’s really not that hard & now I prefer command line sometimes b/c it’s just faster.
What’s really weird is your complete aversion to learning a new utility & your bizarre shaming of people for being knowledgeable about their tools.
I have fixed loads & loads of issues via cli. I don’t even know what the hell you’re on about. Sounds like a skill issue, tbh.
The command line allows people to help troubleshoot problems across Linux dostros without everyone’s desktop having to look exactly the same.
Stop whining, you ninnies, it’s a good thing!
Totally. When I have parties, everyone dances to the sound of one guy telling jokes while another guy laughs hysterically like someone trying to impress their boss on the golf course.
I mean, I suppose I use Gimp as well, but it’s never the first tool I reach for.
I read a comment somewhere that said Gimp is designed for programmers & Krita is designed for artists & I feel like that’s pretty accurate.
Look, I appreciate Gimp, but until its selection algorithm, which is straight up ass, gets fixed, Krita will be a better tool for artists.
I’m completely familiar with fzf!
I also generally tap in the first few letters of a command then use pgUp (on my system) to autocomplete. Or use the ol’ !<command#>.
But I have somehow never friggin heard about Ctrl+r.
But that’s why I love tldr!
It gives written examples of a handful of the most common use cases with a super brief explanation. It’s perfect for quick reference.
But you do you, I don’t own any tldr stock or anything.
Go to a free online AI (or run one locally) and ask it your Linux questions.
That way you won’t have to dig around old forums for answers.
Install tldr if you haven’t already
Holy shit
These squatters have got to go.
I have no idea what the hell a bash snippet extension is, but I do know what a local llama.cpp instance running a small model to tell me bash commands on the fly is.
I use it to make .desktop files, too. Isn’t that so lazy?
I wanted to edit my Ghostty themes but found out a lot of the colors are in #hexadecimal notation. I like #rrggbb percentage style colors (b/c they are easy to tweak by hand) and I couldn’t find an online color picker that would output that format, so I used deepseek (free) & now have a scrappy ass one w Python & Tkinter completely via “vibe” coding (I call it Clyde Color Picker. It’s adorable).
Pretty awesome when you’re just some dumbass who needs a very specific tool and not trying to fleece people.
Memes are art.
What you’re talking about is if AI is actually inventing new work (imo, yes it is), but that’s not the issue.
The issue is these models were trained on our collective knowledge & culture without permission, then sold back to us.
Unless they use only proprietary & public training data, every single one of these models should be open sourced/weighted & free for anyone to use, like libraries.
Thx, that’s exactly my concern as I remember it being an issue when I was flashing ROMs in the past.
I wonder if Square would still work, for example? I haven’t flashed open source ROMs on my phone since like 2012.
Honestly though, I just consider the phone a lost cause when it comes to privacy & use it accordingly. Uncle Googs is always watching, even when the damn thing is turned off.
Because Windows hides its (ugly ass) terminal in shame so the user never has to see its putrid face.
Linux encourages terminal use, including it as one of the base starting icons in most distros.
That’s my guess, anyways.
