Technology@lemmy.world•Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker to suspend tax breaks offered to data centersEnglish
12·1 day agoTo run all sorts of cloud and internet traffic. Things like Youtube, Steam, Amazon Web Services, and so forth require a means to store, process, and transfer data. It is no different from the importance of industrial farms, warehouses, and factories. All of them are unpleasant but important, if we want a capable civilization.
In any case, the placement of a datacenter is the sort of thing that requires proper planning. Some water tables are better suited for sustaining the existence of a datacenter, while other water sources are key to ecosystems or communities. The problems with datacenters isn’t that they are datacenters, but rather their implementation is shoddy and shortsighted.

Technology@lemmy.world•Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker to suspend tax breaks offered to data centersEnglish
272·2 days agoGood. While infrastructure like data centers is necessary, they should go through environmental and zoning considerations, alongside the consent of neighboring communities. The reckless construction of these places is also suspicious as fuck. Why do the wealthy need them NOW?
Personally, I feel that the rushing of datacenters is in service to Palantir, the ICE war machine, and the bunkers that the elite reside in.

41·3 days agoI suspect that the relatively small size of European nations has made it much easier for them to have coherent protestors. The politicians have to be in physical proximity to their constituents, which puts their skin on the line if people snap. Getting enough angry people to surround bad leaders is a key ingredient to a healthy democracy.

22·4 days agoNo, when the American Civil War was ended without ending all of the enemy leadership. Giving clemency to traitors who are fundamentally evil, was and is a foolish thing to do.
If there is a 2nd American Civil War, it is a lesson worth remembering.
The job market was already ruined, AI is just an yet another excuse that corporations trot out. The heart of the problem is that corporations do not care about society, simply existing to line the pockets of a few people within their ranks. Nothing else matters to them. Country and humanity are equally worthless in the eyes of the elite.

401·4 days agoMy opinion remains unchanged: The Regime is throwing away pearls, and raising rot-ridden swine in their place. If a civil war comes, Hegseth and company will be ended by the people they cast aside.

We got a rapist in office. Why should we give a shit about law, if it is solely in service to evil?
