Have you ever considered that the Prime Directive is not only not ethical, but also illogical, and perhaps morally indefensible?

2·2 months agoI don’t think you need an account for CBC Gem, so you might be able to access those with a VPN.
All of the Canadian Olympic coverage uses the same broadcaster/commentator teams, regardless of the network carrying that particular event.

1·2 months agoThe way I see it, if there’s a big moment and you lost the nuance of what happened with the puck, there’ll probably be a replay and I can catch it then.

4·2 months agoAnother, more Olympics-related thought: keep in mind that the rink is shorter. The smaller neutral zone seems to be leading to more offside calls.

11·2 months agoMy tip for watching hockey on TV in general is to not focus too much on the puck, and focus on the bigger-picture movements of the players instead.
You’ll know where the puck is, since everyone’s swarming toward it, so it’s more interesting to see what’s going on around it, if that makes sense.

3·4 months agoJets fans will be disappointed by the lack of Mark Scheifele, but he has seemingly been on the bubble all year.
Goaltending will be under the microscope for the duration of the Olympics, I’m sure.

3·5 months agoThat’s the vibe I’ve seen as someone who doesn’t really follow the Canucks - they were in the classic position of, “move him now and get something in return or let him walk for free later.”

4·5 months agoThere may not be snow (snow by Halloween is neither unusual nor a given), but the temperatures should be comfortably around 0 - good enough to maintain the ice, and be comfortable for spectators.
That said, Winnipeg hit 16 degrees on October 25 this year, which is not ideal.
On the Canadian side, it’s still technically up in the air, but you’ve got your sure-thing players like Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid.
But there are a lot of players who would love a spot - it’s a once-or-twice in a lifetime opportunity, so it’s a bit of a subplot around the league as players are hoping to impress their respective Olympic Committees.
It’s worth noting that it’s an Olympic year, which is always a nationalistic good time.

Some traditions need to be upheld.

More or less, with a couple of caveats (Wikipedia was helpful here).
Teams don’t start accumulating points until they’re officially eliminated from the playoffs.
The worst teams are eliminated first, and therefore play more games in which they can earn points.
