Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If you suddenly had 5 million dollars today, what would you do with it?
8·24 days agoI’m a developer and I love it, but hate the current state of the field. I would quit my job and start my own company. It would be a lot less scarry if I didn’t have to worry about making money. I could just make the things I wanted.

111·1 month agoProbably.
My company is currently pushing “loop engineering” on us… They are in love with Claude and keeps referring to it as “him”. Very proudly announce that “I set ut a loop, and he closed 40 PRs while I slept!” (without review, of course). Based on vibe written tickets as well, which contains many hallucinations.
The poor QA department (2 people) is now trying to figure out how to test all the slop.
Holy! This is the last 10 years of my life.

8·4 months agoI really hope you’re right. My company is still in the “use as much as possible” phase, and my manager is quoting Jensen about “you need to use half your salary on tokens!”. I’m looking for other work, but everyone is looking for vibe coders at the moment it seems…
I’ve gone from really loving my job, to hate my life.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The triumph of AI marks the end of the information age.
19·1 year agoI totally agree with this.
Whenever I see people criticise AI, it’s usually because the company steals copyrighted content, with the aim to replace the people they stole from. Or the environmental impact of training and running the data models, which is awful. And, both of those reasons are good enough to not like AI, in my opinion. But, I feel like I never see people talk about the fact that all the answers it gives, is being filtered through a private corporation with its own agenda.
People use it to learn, and to do research. They use it to catch up on news of all things!
Like others have mentioned, Google has already been doing this a long time, by sorting search results they show to the user. But, they haven’t written all the articles, the blog posts, the top 10 lists, or the reviews you read… until now. If they’ve wanted to, they’ve made certain things easier or harder to find. But, once you found the article you were looking for, it was written by a person unaffiliated with Google. All that changes with AI. You don’t read the article directly anymore. Google (or any other AI) scrapes it, parses it however they want, and spit it back out to the end user.
I’m very surprised that people are so willing to let a private corporation completely control how they see the world, just because it’s a bit more convenient.

We tried that at my job, who are pushing AI down our throats.
I’m not sure how they can say with a straight face that they now expect us to do 300-700% more work (their estimate) for the same pay and the same hours as before, but they apparently can… Just capitalism things I guess.
They also ridiculed the person who asked in front of the whole company.
