  • Turns out she was innocent. She didn’t follow the protocol for classified documents. However the documents were not classified until after they were sent. She didn’t break the law.

It didn’t stop them though. Something must’ve been in those documents because they got buried in bureaucracy in following lawsuits.

In June 2016, in response to the Republican National Committee’s complaints filed in March 2016, the State Department estimates it will take 75 years to complete the review of documents which are responsive to the complaints. It has been observed that a delay of this nature would cause the documents to remain out of public view longer than the vast majority of classified documents which must be declassified after 25 years.

  • I’ve just about had it with arguing against these kinds of right-wing talking points.

No amount of what-about-ism will ever outweigh the environmental impact that the distribution of fuel alone is creating. About 40% of fossil fuels are used to transport … fossil fuels.

That happens before you even need to consider how efficiently your own car is produced or how much tire dust it generates.

Anyway, arguing against the talking points is fruitless regardless of what numbers say. They simply move the goal post whenever they’ve encountered enough people who don’t eat their shit at face value.

They will defend their gasoline car because that’s the decision they already made. However they usually change their mind when they are actually in the market for a new car for themselves, because that’s also an easy decision.

  • I played a similar game on Roblox: Dig to find dad.

The objective is to bomb your way some 3 kilometers downwards. When you reach the bottom you’ll find a grocery store where the dad is shopping for milk. Talking to him reveals that he doesn’t want to go home. I don’t know if other endings are possible.

  • I’ve read a lot of stories about it, because I’m a fan of the game and also used to dabble in assembly myself. His motivation isn’t as crazy as it’s often presented.

He used assembly because he had always programmed in assembly on a variety of hardware. He basically had every typical function documented or memorized from other projects. Just as any programmer can remember the statements in a language, he had blocks of assembly code that he could put together to do the same things. Like functions, right? If it’s made right and you know what it does, then you don’t even need to look at what’s between the brackets.

At the time he wrote RCT, he simply couldn’t be bothered to start a new collection of scripts in a different language.

  • Windows 11 sleep mode is causing all kinds of issues for me too on one laptop. Especially WiFi.

It shuts down WiFi to save power and never wakes it up regardless of what power save settings say. I’m also using a cellular WiFi and have to disable one of the modes in the netadapter for that to even work, but the driver keeps resetting the choices made in the device manager and such. Complete garbage.

It’s my daughters brand new laptop for school. She needs to open the lid and use the pc for browser applications. My youngest doesn’t have her own laptop, so I gave a beaten up 20 year old laptop and installed Mint, because windows 10 couldn’t even boot properly with only 4 gb of ram. She does the same thing. Open the lid, use the browser. It always works.

This is not a special case. This is not me being to dumb to use it or too smart and demanding. I think it’s perfectly reasonable for anyone to expect a laptop to function as intended when opening the lid and using the browser. Windows just doesn’t do that.

  • Easy. We often use idioms for comparisons.

One old way would be: “Trump and Hitler are both 2/3 yards from one piece” which means “They’re cut from the same (bad) fabric”.

Fabric was cut in an old measurement"alen" which was 2 foot or 2/3 yards, so simply stating the length would be understood as fabric, similar to how everyone knows that a 2x4s is a piece of wood and such.

  • English also has words like dozen (12) and score (20).

I guess it came from the physical counting in trading. Imagine counting 96 small items. It makes sense to group them into scores and then count the scores. 1 score 2 score 3 score 4 score and a half score. Then there are few remaining that didn’t fit it neatly in scores and then counted last. That’s a total of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 plus the 4 and a half scores.
