Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Why electric cars might be making some passengers feel sickEnglish
25·7 days agoBig Oil propaganda.
My EV has two drive gears, one that engages regenerative braking when releasing the accelerator (B) and the other that coasts, decelerating more slowly when you release the accelerator (D). The B gear feels like when in an ICE you release the accelerator in a low gear and use the resistance of the engine for deceleration. Releasing the accelerator in the D gear feels more like being in a high gear in an ICE where the car coasts a lot more.
If drivers are finding that regenerative braking causes motion sickness then the driver is not selecting the gears correctly (there are literally only two forward gears in my car, it’s not hard). Or perhaps their car doesn’t let them choose. I haven’t driven any other EVs so I don’t know how common that is.
You would get the same effect from a driver of an ICE vehicle if they drove everywhere in second gear.
Incidentally, driving everywhere in the B gear seems to be a common mistake (at least for my car model, when I first looked up the difference between the gears) because inexperienced EV drivers think that they only get regenerative braking in the B gear. That’s not the case though. In the D gear you also get regenerative braking, you’re just applying less braking intertia so you slow down less quickly, but you still recover the same amount of energy into the battery over a longer period of time. When actually pressing the brake pedal you also get regenerative braking, unless you brake hard and the brake pads need to engage to respond quickly. I tend to drive in D and only switch to B if I’m entering a lower speed limit area and need to slow down more quickly to match that speed.

8·10 days agoThe stable matching problem has also been called the stable marriage problem, using a metaphor of marriage between men and women, and many sources describe the Gale–Shapley algorithm in terms of marriage proposals. However, this metaphor has been criticized as both sexist and unrealistic: the steps of the algorithm do not accurately reflect typical or even stereotypical human behavior.

9·10 days agoIs it a permissions issue? If you’re running software through flatpak, do you need to enable access to the optical drive device through flatseal?
I would look at the tools that the preservation groups use for doing this. The optical media layouts are funky and IIRC using
ddon the block device is not enough to archive a bit-for-bit copy. There are details about the track layout and so on that need to be recorded separately. This is why formats like BIN/CUE exist.

It has a single committer and there are two commits with Claude as co-author, so I would suggest it’s probably about as you’d expect.
