Like, there are a lot of reasons to switch to linux and plenty of them are compelling. But its an absolute fantasy to believe you’re somehow immune to surveillance because you’re using the same software as Amazon’s EC2. Does anyone really believe the NSA hasn’t cracked Linux Mint yet?

You are such a bad faith actor it’s insane.
We are discussing authoritarian laws that limits people freedom and the argument you are using is that “the law is the law”. You are being a bad faith actor yourself as big as the burj khalifa. If we were in nazi germany you would be backing the racist laws because they are laws.
It’s a basic societal understanding that if we live in a society there will be laws to stop bad shit from happening.
There’s more bad shit happening due to weed being illegal, like entire criminal organizations smuggling it which resulted in the government of france trying to ban encryption to fight them.
