Yeah the utilities area is downright scary. Usually run on thin margins, really old specialists that are rapidly retiring, no IT budget to speak of, and most mission critical tech is 20+ years old, off the shelf from companies long dead, and loosely networked by people who’s objective was “make it work”, not security or resilience.

The only way out- electrical companies basically HAVE to become public like all the other utilities, and funding, wages, job training, and modernization for all utilities needs to be prioritized massively.

Of course, there’s lots of political reasons for idiots to fight against all this, so it won’t happen until the worst already has.

Honestly it’s batshit that anyone can read The Culture and NOT understand the entire point is that The Culture persists and succeeds where others fail because of it’s values and diversity. Very much including those constant sex changes and anarcho-communism/socialism.

Prusa undisputed #1 for their open and honest approach by reputable people who care, followed, in my opinion, by Snapmaker. Snapmaker is running Klipper with (mostly) open source stuff layered on top. They do have a few binary modules that run alongside, but overall an open ecosystem and a company that seems to thrive in it.

Sovol in third for me. They’re very much just following what other companies and the voron project are doing, but they haven’t fucked up too massively yet, basically open source software, and everything in the printer is commodity, off the shelf hardware.

To be clear, I mean the less reputable larpers- the ones I called “idiots”. Mostly the manosphere types that periodically show off guns.

I agree, most of the people I’ve seen that are more a part of the firearm community proper conduct themselves properly around firearms.

Hmmm not sure that’s the complete source code. Most of those files are very high level, 8 - 80 lines of code. I’d expect there’s something not in the repo doing a ton of the heavy lifting.

As a huge Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim fan, I’ve found the same. KDC in many ways hit many of the same vibes but with superior characters, story, and dialogue. The missing magic is a vibe I still return to mostly Oblivion for these days.

This is a concern if you just port forward through a router. This isn’t a problem if you simply use a reverse proxy, which is standard and normal and expected and not difficult at all.
