There are big differences, Heroic present the gog library in a nice way and supports convenience features like cloud saves (must have with big screen at home and remote gaming on Laptop) as well as gametime tracking, some achievements (dont care about those).

Its far more convenient than Lutris for GoG and of course you can easily backup your Games.

For Luanti I want to especially recommend the Game “Glitch” which is not minecraft like at all, but surprisingly great.

Yes thats pretty much the closest you can get to fully open source today. I have a number of devices I use:

• A Pixel 5 with Graphene because the modern world relies to much on Android Apps, also used as hotspot,
• A Nokia N9 for reading and light browsing, occasional navigation
• A Nokia N900 with Maemo Leste for secure administrative work.

We also have Sailfish devices in the house

In that case hardware wise you are out of options. With the Librem 5 you get the closest. There you only have the CPU Microcode, Wifi and Bluetooth firmware, and the cellular modem & GNSS firmware.

Software wise you have quite a few options, albeit few are usable as daily drivers.

• Android drops out because it requires hardware with proprietary HAL. You would have to rewrite huge parts of the OS so that it runs without them.
• Postmarket OS is your best bet for a somewhat usable experience
• Many open source systems run, but calls are difficult to setup and partly unreliable.
• Pure OS should fit your goal best, Mobian second.

With a Droid 4 and Maemo Leste you can also get quite close but have no camera.

But you can. Its Linux+GNU with a partially open, partially closed source UI. So you can run tracing utilities and other tools even wireshark!) to check that it values your privacy. That statement that it is a fully closed OS from the OP is wrong.

Yes thats not good, but also a problem of many common Linux distributions. If you have any linux-firmware-* packages installed on your system, they also contain similar binary blobs for the firmware. E.g. Intel or Qualcom wireless cards. But you can utilize all tools up to strace under Sailfish OS, to see what those drivers are accessing and check that they don’t do anything bad. Under Graphene OS, you can not do this. (But its resonable to trust the very privacy focused developer that they have checked and tested this and isolated them as far as possible on the OS level)

Sailfish OS is the definition of proprietary software. You need to buy a subscription if you even want to install it on third party devices.

Again this is not correct. If what you claim is true, how comes that the OS is available on all these devices?. Sailfish OS is open Source at its core and easily ported to new devices. What you can do is pay for the licensed content on official devices. That enables automatic updates and proprietary software as the MS Exchange support and the Android App Support. Though for the later you can also install Waydroid because, you know, its Linux! Paying Jolla however gives access to a more comfortable solution and support development of the platform.

Um… no. Can you port Windows to a new device? No, its source is closed. Does Microsoft support people hacking their OS? No, Jolla has community meetings for that. Do you have full Access udner Windows? No. Does Sailfish send your data to a third party? No. Does Sailfish show you adds? No, Does it force you to use AI? No and so on and so forth.

Uh even this short stab is quite wrong. Here notes from Jolla itself for Sailfish OS 5.2

The base of Sailfish OS is a full blown Linux, way more open than Android (more options for the user, less secure than Graphene, which has that as main goal) you can easily install/compile Linux software on it.

Close source components are used. Parts of the UI (Jolla is open sourcing more and more), libhybris to run closed source Android drivers, Android App Support.

So yes its not as open source as debian, but offers more freedom to modify the OS than Graphene and gives you near full control.

I don’t have a second screen right now, but here is my desktop with the 3 default task widgets. Only icons on top, switcher to the right, text and icons on the bottom. All in their own panels. Of course any panel could just be moved onto a second monitor. I remember this is possible since KDE 4 and stable since early KDE 5.

KDE’s strength is its incredibly customizability. In the past this also lead to instability for unorthodox configurations, but the last few years it has also been very stable for me.

You can easily do that on plasma. Just add a panel and add the widget you prefer (only icons, or icons and window titles)

Had that on one of mine too (my main one I used for many years). Yes thats very bad, nearly unfixable and you can only use it with a second phone which provides a hotspot.

(Some people had success with stripping all temperature sensitive parts and plastics from the mainboard and baking the mainboard in the oven)

Far from usable as daily phone, but they are making good progress despite their small team. Dillo works as Browser for sites without js, SMS works well, calls are possible, Bluetooth is missing but everything else pretty much works.

Of course the 256MB RAM pose a heavy limit for todays apps. You have to choose ones which use it sparingly. E.g. mupdf, gnumeric instead of libreoffice and so on.

But its awesome for mobile ssh and, little games like SNES ones. I am starting to use it as second phone.

I have mostly abandoned Win for many years (I only have gaming PC where I still have dual boot) Has it really gotten that bad? Every time I boot up Win I am shocked how long this clean PC with only Games installed and high end hardware takes to get ready. But at least it does its job.

On Linux (Kubuntu in my case) I haven’t had an issue with hanging software in a long time. Even browsers have become completely stable.

To explain this to the uninitiated: (First follow another explanation of the original combo)

In Magic spells are not in effect immediately, instead they go on the stack, before they are resolved. Spells from a stack are resolved in LiFo order, so last in, first out. Instants, like Gut Shot, can be put on the stack at any time by any player (simplified).

So Enemy gets his 21 mana with channel, you let that resolve, he has 1 life. He pumps it all into the fireball, now you act. While fireball is on the stack you cast Gut Shot, paying with 2 life of your 20. It goes on the stack. Your enemy hopefully has no response, without any mana left in his pool, and he looses his last life and the game.

When a player looses the game all his spells are removed from the stack, so you really win and there is no draw.

You stopped his combo with 4 cards worth unreal amounts of money with a single card worth about 50ct.
