Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL that after 9/11, many Americans opted to drive instead of fly. The shift led to a surge in crash deaths. The number of lives lost (2,000+) is comparable to those killed on 9/11.English
1·2 hours agoThere’s some okay airports. I have to fly with the more annoying ones. TPA/ATL/JFK/DFW. I think a big issue is how over-priced everything is. Even though the vending machines in Japans airports were priced a bit higher, they were still a great deal. Same with food in Koreas airports. I will avoid flying out of JFK if I can, that’s probably one of the worst airports I’ve been in.

32·4 hours agoI think Heath Ledgers version of the Joker was interesting. I didn’t really like the other ones.
I would guess that he’s actually the “Dark Knight.” From the way the movie portrays him, it seems he’s a ex-military guy that lost his mind. Technically he does more for the city than Batman by basically pitting criminals against each other and going after corrupt officials. So I did dissect the meanings in that movie, my buddy was really into superhero movies and such but I usually got bored with them; I would say that’s the only one I enjoyed.
I like the last line, they can get bent.
I use a ten year old photography monitor, it’s calibrated, and it’s good for everything I use it for.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do most Americans vote just based on name recognizing without any thinking of the platform? Or pigeon hole a candidate to one issue and vote for them? Even if that issue is way against beliefs?
2·4 hours agoI would venture to say so. I don’t know many people that have time to research the 50 candidates on the preliminary voting sheet. Then the list is still long on whoever gets on the main ballot. And don’t forget researching the policies you’ll be voting on. Most voters just parrot what they’re told and have no idea what they vote for. And adding in, there’s no repercussions for candidates that state what they represent and then vote against it after being elected.
Some used to be fun. I had the best success with Plenty of Failure and OkStupid before they became complete trash.
You’ve probably seen what they feed kids in school.
There was an idea to make school lunches “healthier” to push weight loss by dumb politicians and the result was worse than the prison food served before. I’ll take the prison food any day over the “healthy” lunches I had when I worked in education, lunch duty so may as well eat something then since you get maybe 15 minutes to eat on lunch break, I would drink a pot of coffee a day lol.
I really felt bad for the kids, and I can say it probably contributed to behavioral issues. I worked 12 hour+ days some of these kids where there that long for the after school program.

2·18 hours agoI’m pretty sure it was just a “jobs” program. Can’t say unemployment is up when you make fake jobs. Kind of like the greeter at Costco, idiocracy.
lol I don’t know but that was the first thing I thought of, making ridiculous songs. But realistically it’s probably about the not talked connections. I’m sure it’s bigger than anyone can imagine, and no one really wants to be in a briefcase.
I mean I write crap like this in Suno making fun of anime titles: That time that I got slimed on while being a magic girl who was No Longer Allowed In Another World while trying to sip slime after being reincarnated by a double wide surprise climbing the tower of god. At this point it’s not slop, it’s sharing a brain cell with my cat.

1·19 hours agoI hope so as well. I’ve had many students, military members, friends, girlfriends, complete strangers, confide in me and tell me their dark pasts, seek me for help and I’ve helped them through it. I hope someone will do the same for me. So good on you for your assumptions, go on and tell me how you’ve helped someone.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If circumcision is so insanely common in the USA, why do people tease about it on the internet?
6·20 hours agoThat’s the proper attitude.

So the point missed is that the goal is prison labor. Why pay someone to process toll booths on a computer for a few dollars a day while having the taxpayer cover their expense and pay for the prison?
