Those of us possibly even older may point to the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine in '87. From Wikipedia, the fairness doctrine “required the holders of broadcast licenses both to present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that fairly reflected differing viewpoints.” In short, it’s repeal paved the way for Fox News and led all the way to CBS under Weiss.
But to your point, there are 3 things on my platform that I tell anyone who wants to hear it. 3 actionable items:
I didn’t say it would be easy.
I agree, which is why I don’t see why people are saying the answer is 16. You add in the parentheses, you multiply, then you divide. The answer is 1.
This left-to-right business linked below is complete nonsense when it comes to equations. That’s how westerners read books, but not how math is communicated. Am I that old? Like Mr. Incredible said, did they change math!?!
Luckovich is a badass.
“I didn’t say she was crazy, I said she was fucking Goofy!”

So, she shares a name with The Walrus of Love himself, Barry White. Cool. There’s a joke in there somewhere…
I like this.

Flip it and you got me.

I’m missing context on this one. I walk away from Lemmy for ONE day and…

I just heard about this on a podcast. The hosts and guest were giggling about “Mr Hands” and didn’t go into any specifics, but I got that they were talking about a large penis. Now I know just how large, thanks!

Hey man, let’s take some poorly written beat poetry and put it over mediocre guitar compositions. Then we can take a talented keyboardist but make him play the shittiest sounding electric organ. And we can make sure the recording makes it all sound like a cat and some tin cans in a dryer.

“The car is cheap because money is free” is what the article is basically saying: China provides no-interest loans to EV manufacturers.

He is in the article and mentioned as a lefty, but just absent from the article’s title. I agree, just say “one out of 40” and you still make your point.

“Despite attention and widespread notoriety, neither Rockwell nor his party achieved political power and his following was largely insignificant.”
That’s a hell of an epitaph.

E.B. Farnum from Deadwood (the HBO show, anyway. Who knows what he was like in real life?)

We have a lot of sprawl here and the reasons are many. Just like Dallas and LA, we have a ton of road infrastructure and zoning laws that eat up a lot of land. We also don’t have any natural barriers, like an ocean or a mountain range, to limit our expansion. Just to keep building and add another lane. Thanks for asking.

Marchetti intended the constant to be 1 hour round trip, so a half-hour commute one-way. It’s an important distinction, since here in Atlanta the exurban commuter is clocking in at 1.5 hours or more into the city, well outside of what is considered tolerable. Multiply that by a million and you get some irritated people.

Okay, now defend us from the foreign censorship that Israeli lobbyists baked into our state constitutions. https://www.newsweek.com/pro-palestinian-protest-states-colleges-illegal-bds-1895292
