Most correct answer possible.
No :(

nixos-rebuild switch
Is there actual REQUIRED upkeep though or could you say fuck it, and go ashore with a tent, row boat and the freshwater and food required for a week?
OK I’m curious. Would I be allowed:

Not really… At least not generally. The privacy increase from switching from Android to proper Linux is, to me at least, more important than loosing a locked bootloader.
That’s just my threat model. I know that Google & Co are extracting as much info about me as humanly possible, and I have no reason to believe that I am being targeted by someone with the capability to exploit the unlocked bootloader.
Same for my PC btw - secure boot is disabled because it’s not worth the hassle. Again. In my threat model.
(But I would wager that this goes for a lot of users.)

Pretty sure the Bootloader in unlockable (at least they were in the past?) and support(ed) mainline Linux kernel for an actual Linux mobile OS.
Idk, to me that sounds way better than staying on a google device.
Yeah, that’s my point. I never got around to putting things in Debian repos or the AUR because shit seemed unnecessarily complicated. Now on NixOS, I happily help maintain a bunch of packages and modules. Because the packaging, build system, and OS are just sane, stable, and a joy to work with!
Sorry, but calling the dumping ground for obsolete and outdated packages an “OS” goes a little too far in my opinion.
“Smaller userbase yet more stable and more and better maintained packages” is not the insult you thought it was, I’m afraid…
(/s, just in case, hope this is all still in good fun!)
I don’t how hoch you managed to accidentally type “Debian” while you were obviously trying to type NixOS.
Idk it took me 3 attempts to learn (neo)vim, but now every Linux system I SSH in I just go straight for vi(m), because moving around and editing in Nano is just so slow when you’re used to vim keys.
I swear I’m not trying to proselytize. People should use whatever they want, and these discussions are pointless. It’s all just tradeoffs and getting used to things.

Ohhh that makes sense… Somehow… about Jeff Geerling. He always felt off to me in a way I couldn’t put my finger on. Guess now I have a proper reason not to watch him.
Also yes Alec is fantastic.
I’m not really that purist - I’ll use closed-sourced software when necessary. For example, I have Davinci Resolve and Bitwig Studio installed. Sure I would prefer if those were open, but the target audience here are creatives, who largely won’t care.
On the other hand, Jolla is trying to sell exactly to those people that DO care, which makes the choice so hard to understand and support.
I really like the idea of the Jolla and am seriously considering getting one. I’m also the exact target audience (Linux nerd, privacy conscious, FOSS advocate, want to own MY device fully, hate having to use a US-based duopoly in my current daily life).
That’s exactly why I don’t understand their decision to keep parts of their system closed. The overlap between people who want a Linux phone and who are OK with that Linux phone not being fully open seems to be tiny.

You killed him! NOW IT’S JUST “Lake”!
Lmao this is fantastic, thank you.

Yeah Librewolf is amazing. I dialed some if the ootb settings back for usability, but all the “new” stuff Mozilla adds is filtered right back out upstream, so I never even see it.
Worse than just taxing them properly.
