xenomor@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•A leap toward lighter, sleeker mixed reality displaysEnglish2·4 days agoYou may be correct, but I suspect that by the time that we eventually achieve this technological goal, it will be more economically viable to plug it into robotic solutions that mostly take humans out of the loop for such industrial applications. I don’t think any of that is happening soon. I still don’t see a long term path for XR beyond some niche gaming and porn applications.

xenomor@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•A leap toward lighter, sleeker mixed reality displaysEnglish26·4 days agoIt’s remarkable that there continues to be investment in this UI form factor over such a long period of time, despite there being no evidence that there is a widespread market for this. The challenge to make this good is obviously very very high. I strongly suspect that the challenge of convincing people to adopt this form or computing in anything larger than a few niche use cases is even higher. As cool as this technology seems in theory, the fact is that people generally don’t need it and don’t want it. There will always be niche markets for this, and perhaps that’s enough to justify the continued investment. But, I hope investors aren’t fooling themselves into thinking that this is going to ever be common or widely adopted.

Is that the plan? It really looks like that’s the plan right now.

Is Cuomo listed as a Democrat on the next ballot? If so, what is the purpose of a primary, if a losing candidate can just keep running in the main election? Can anyone just put their name on the main ballot?
xenomor@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•The alarming rise of US officers hiding behind masks: ‘A police state’30·1 month agoAt this point, my first reaction to seeing anyone in law enforcement at any level is they are a criminal thugs that cannot be trusted, should be undermined at every opportunity, insulted relentlessly, and if necessary, worse. I know there are some good cops, and not everything they do is bad, but goddamn they do they suck in general.

Great, so you’ve chosen to create a framework that makes this conflict an existential threat to your opponent. You’ve literally told them that they need to fight with everything they have. That’s a brilliant strategy you got goin’ on there.

xenomor@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•A woman tried to call her mom in Iran. A robotic voice answered the phoneEnglish7·1 month agoThis is the part where genocidal freaks, like yourself, claim that Israel, and the US, don’t target civilians. Got it. That is of course a laughably inaccurate characterization of US and Israeli policy.
I also love it when the people with all the power proclaim the wonders and efficacy of peaceful resistance. How convenient for the entrenched power. I’m tempted to call out the origin of the United States, which was violent resistance to an oppressive regime. Funny how we find that story inspiring, but deride anybody else’s struggle to escape our own oppression.
xenomor@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•A woman tried to call her mom in Iran. A robotic voice answered the phoneEnglish10·1 month agoI just love western logic that decries killing civilians as terrorism when one side does it, but rationalizes the same act when the other side does it in an efficient, mechanized way with orders of magnitude more death and destruction.

Also, the US has been participating far more directly in the apartheid and genocide than just supplying munitions.
