    It is irrelevant if it is illegal or not. The punishment is important. If the company just has to pay a fine of $500, they will shred this plant to pieces.

      It’s especially irrelevent if the law isn’t enforced, and that is the modus operandi of our corrupt politicians with things their rich pals want them to get rid of but they don’t have the support to get rid of. They appoint industry insiders to lead enforcement.

      They also will reverse, or just not collect fines levied. With oil companies at the federal level, and with untold companies at the state level, as a propublica article about ND’s system of judges reducing or eliminating fines for polluting.

      With oil companies, they will make a payment or two and then stop, and government allows them. If you or I owe money to the government for unpaid fees, we go to jail, often a day for every 10 to 20 dollars owed.
