How great. It is the “You can always tell” bias all over again. With the variety of VR glasses that are out there, good luck memorizing all of them, and feeling like you’re playing Pokémon.

Just like with AI and trans people, a loud minority of irrational people turn to violence, instead of asking for proper legislation. (For the record, I think the legislation on Trans people should be to protect them, making gender affirming care become law, and ban things like hate speech and conversion therapy).

I agree. Punching glassholes sounds good in theory, but a lot of people are extremely stupid. Encouraging to do that, will practically lead to multiple blind people getting punched in the face, even if they are not even wearing VR glasses. I would rather have the pervert glasses wearing idiots walk around, than blind people having to not use their accessibility devices, or having to just stay away from public places in fear of being assaulted.

There has to be some better solution, be it just asking enthusiasticly “hey are those VR glasses? where did you get them?” or “excuse me, are you blind?”, before punching, or some better legislation, or something. Something that does not lead to morons punching blind people regularly.

Thank you for actually getting the point. It is just like that transphobic panic about bathrooms, people pretend to come from a place of love and care, a “Won’t someone think about the children” kind of stance, to justify battery, assault and harassment of anyone they suspect to be the target.

Honestly, mobs are beyond stupid and fail to even comprehend the fact that they can be wrong, but in their own echo chambers, where their own voices and support for their points gets amplified a lot, which leads to even further extremist thinking.

If your version of preventing surveillance state depends on getting angry mobs to beat up innocents, you definitely need some better ideas and planning. And insulting random people on the internet, without offering anything valuable to the discussion, does not shine a good light on your character.

angry mobs to beat up innocents

Great, you’ve completely made up a circumstance in your head.

It takes one person to smash a pair of these glasses, not an angry mob. Nobody but you said anything about an angry mob, the circumstances are punch + smash the glasses into the ground.

It’s always fucking hyperbole with people like you, meanwhile these fucking nazis are getting a free pass to fill the world with cameras. Kindly, fuck off.

Did you not read my, or the other posters, comments? You are missing the point we both made. Let me try again.

There are a lot of stupid people. Trying to get a lot of people to punch glassholes, will lead those stupid people to also punch people with VR glasses. Which then leads to stupid people actually punching people with glasses. But because they are stupid, they cannot tell which ones are wearing VR glasses, or that someone wearing VR glasses might have them as an accessibility device, and not as pervert glasses. So they will punch people who have glasses, that to them, look like VR glasses, but are not.
A lot of blind people wear sunglasses, that can look like VR glasses, in places people do not usually wear sunglasses. This means, getting a lot of stupid people, to punch people with glasses, will lead to a lot of innocent people - especially blind ones - not releated to glassholes in anyway, getting targeted and punched, just for existing in a public place. A lot of people punching random people indiscriminately for wearing glasses, because they hate glassholes, is an angry mob. Thus, that plan leads to an angry mob, punching a lot of innocent people.

I did read your comments hence the term HYPERBOLE.

How often do you see people saying ‘punch nazis’ around here? How often does it actually happen? Not as much as it should, but here you are saying ‘Oh my gosh this behavior is going to lead to a chain reaction of events that harms MARGINALIZED and DISABLED PEOPLE and there is NO OTHER way that this will play out. These glasses are INDISTINGUISHABLE from regular glasses, and if you punch them it will INEVITABLY lead to BLIND PEOPLE BEING ABUSED!’

Hyperbole: figure of speech that uses deliberate, extreme exaggeration to emphasize a point, evoke strong emotions, or add humor - not meant to be taken seriously.

I do not take this line of reasoning seriously, because it isn’t. It is very obvious when these cameras are pointed at you, and truth be told — I don’t think a blind person gets a pass for being a pair of cameras gathering data on whatever they happen to be looking at. In fact I would advise blind people stay away from these glasses, but who knows — maybe blind people are particularly selfish and don’t give a shit about contributing to a less safe world.

I, for one, wasn’t thinking I’d punch them and smash their glasses. I was thinking I’d just shoot paintballs at their face. So you can go ahead and determine whether being punched in the face or have glass shattered into your eye by a paintball is worse.

Do you honestly believe, that all the people you have met in person, would be able to tell the difference between a glasshole with their VR glasses, and a random blind person wearing sunglasses? Sure, in this discussion it is a hyperbole, but people manage to cause these stupid mob mentality things every now and then. Like reddit, and misidentifying the Boston bomber. Or all the canceling, harassing and doxxing, that has ended up targeting someone innocent. Just the other day, I saw some post about a documentary or something, about how pedo hunters managed to murder some completely unrelated person.

Real life is not a movie, people get permanently disabled and even die from a single punch, even in stupid, drunken bar fights all the time. If a random person reads that comment about punching, and decides it is actually a good idea - do you think that one, is definitely one of those, who will be able to actually recognize the VR glasses? Inciting violence online, and managing to cause even a single moron, to assault and possibly kill innocent people, makes you responsible for that as well. If you think that is okay, you should think about your values, and what sort of a person you really want to be.

I do hope you can find some healthier outlet for your anger, than insulting randoms, and writing violent fantasies online.

The genie is out of the bottle, and there is no way to put it back in. Instead of useless violence, things should be legislated and regulated.

Do I think those glasses are stupid, infringe the right to privacy of anyone around them and are being used for nefarious purposes? 100%.

Do I believe that committing indiscriminate violence on people one believes to be wearing meta glasses will make them disappear? Absolutely not.

But there is no way to have a logical conversation with someone who is foaming at the mouth. Especially when it involves topics such as AI and surveillance, that are so massively polarizing.

Wow, with that level of reading comprehension, you’re gonna get far in life, kid. Have I defended the glasses at any point? Hell no.

But as I said before, go touch grass, clean the foam out of your mouth and perhaps, get your blood pressure taken.

All I have been saying is that committing straight up assault on people for wearing those abomination glasses is stupid. But if you stan for violence so much, it won’t be a surprise when you stop posting because you landed your ass in jail.

I’m really surprised at the upvote / downvote ratio here.

You guys are clearly talking past each other , but only you are getting the downvotes.

You’ve both got valid points - and entirely unrelated to each other - but they are refusing to acknowledge.

It’s because Ifera is taking an imaginary scenario seriously. “Get punched in the face” is a common american euphamism for “You’re an asshole if you do this. But I’m not going to literally punch you in the face”.

Personally, I don’t see any valid point being made by the other person, other than agreeing with me about trans people needing protection and conversion therapy being fucked up.

Someone who’s opening statement is promoting violence and acting like assaulting people on the street is an appropriate response to those glasses doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt from me, so I just bait them a bit to kill some time.

I don’t mind the down votes, anyone rational enough would see how escalating to assault is straight up insane. I already knew I wasn’t going to convince the other person, so might as well have some fun, No?

Also, whatch this comment get down voted by the herd mentality and the people angry enough to keep coming back to continue down voting me, as well as going into my history just to downvote random older comments.
