It’s how Elon has been able to get away with these so far. He touts them like a lottery to get the rubes to vote how he wants, but the money was never part of an illegal raffle. Definitely fraud though, but we’ll see.

It’s illegal to buy votes. It’s illegal to offer anything of value in exchange for voting, not voting, registering to vote, or not registering to vote. It’s illegal to offer employment in exchange for voting or not voting. It’s illegal to offer entries in a lottery for voting or not voting. It’s illegal to offer a lottery that isn’t actually random.
It doesn’t matter which way he tries to spin it, they’re all illegal.
* A little bit of the hesitation could be blamed on the authorities not wanting to get attacked for being political (I’m sure Fox News would love to show footage of Elon getting arrested at a political rally). But lets be honest, the bigger issue is that he’s the world’s richest man, his defense would have limitless resources, and there’s a good chance that the feds would interfere to get him out.

It’s the same playbook Musk deployed ahead of the November presidential election that some elections experts say broke the law around vote buying.And we’ve been saying it back then. Plus other election interference by abusing X, and even Tesla?, and not only in the US. I am beyond exasperated. No amount of “I told you so” will make me happy anymore. Has anybody beyond experts voicing their opinions (and no shade on them I’m sure they did what they could) done anything against Musk in the past years?
Everyone is expecting mobs, or drone swarms, or a lone rifleman or something to do something. If you want something done, get the protest movements a cryptowallet thats funded by France or a former ally. Then we can camp all day in DC. Until then all you’re getting is local movements doing what they can locally. America is fucken huge. We can’t all meet in the capital and pay for it out of pocket. We need to get out of the personal sacrifice stage of resistance.
I am not seeing a great future for the US, the apathetic majority (those that did not vote) need to feel more pain to be spurred into action. I feel that their lives are too comfortable to even pay attention to whats happening. I am seeing an increase of various parties within the US spurring into action like you said its mostly local, which is good to see but more pain needs to be felt by the citizens for a much larger resistance to take place.
But is there an actual time limit on that? Is Germany okay now? (I know that answer doesnt help us in the present). My point is, even if they succeed, they have to keep succeeding. With their current track record, dissidence will just keep increasing. With their current gamble they think they can keep control of 340 million people while they dismember their government. We’re 2 months in and though I’m not a part of it I know there are hidden chats out there planning rebellion because there are public chats out there planning massive protests. Their grip isnt as iron as they’d like you to believe. Yeah its gonna suck. Its gonna fucken get lovely people killed. But this is what happens when those that rule claim ultimate authority without having to hold ultimate responsibility. Its been a long time comin’.
