This guy looks and acts like a complete monster. I hope these brave whistleblowers stay safe, and prevent him from getting this insane position.

We just need more guillotines. It’s how they solved things in the past when the law didn’t work. There’s historical precedence.
People say this a lot but they seem to forget that France was a Republic for like 10 minutes before Napoleon declared himself emperor and went to war with the entirety of europe
To be fair…
It was about 12 years, but that is a relatively short time. It’s about the same time we have to deal with Trump from the beginning of his first term to the end of his second, which is also an eternity (assuming that doesn’t become a literal eternity). And the First Republic kinda sucked for a ton of reasons, but it was at least technically a Republic.
But also one of those reasons is that the Republic itself was at war with basically the entirety of Europe already, which is why Napoleon was able to rise to power in the first place: he wasn’t just a dude that waltzed in and said “make me emperor”, he was the hero of the army of Italy and basically was the major (unexpected) reason that France was able to defeat Austria.
Anyway, the point is that we don’t have a Napoleon waiting in the wings to just snatch up power if it came to, say, Jacobin actions, but Napoleon took time to emerge, so we’d have at least a few years of guillotines first…
Sure…that’s gonna solve some things when your side isn’t in power.

I understand the instinct for non-violence, especially when the system is working as intended, but nothing about our current system is stopping any abuse of power by anyone with power. The vast majority of the population does not agree with any of these political elites anymore, so it’s not really about sides, the side doing all this is inordinately represented by their abuses of the system, and bombastic and offensive nature of their most zealous, they are not actually equal. These particular people have also been advocating violence for their compatriots for decades if not longer, so reasonable people across the spectrum are way behind the curve as far as their willingness to speak this way about violence as a last resort. It’s normal at this point for conservatives to be heard calling very directly for killing progressives, particularly when only zealous conservatives can hear them
Seriously though - what do you propose?
Here’s what I just commented on another post:
And then what, hm? The comparison to the French Revolution is apt.
While I understand what you’re saying, guillotines are symbolic of revolution against government.
They represent ONE unless I’m mistaken. Please point me to where an invading force of some sort has been defeated or representation by guillotine aside from France almost 300 years ago, please.
You’re acting as if the French revolution isn’t one of, if not THEE most iconic and widely referenced revolutions. It seems like you’re being obtuse.
It’s not at all if you’re talking about:
a) global political impact b) an expression of revolt by populace and THEN it’s effect c) the general recognized importance of it in general
The ones that ARE absolutely responsible for global change are:
The French Rev was minor in comparison.
“Global change”
I said iconic and widely referenced.
The French Revolution has second billing, after the American Revolution, on the wikipedia page for “revolution”.
I don’t care that you think it was minor due to the actual global impact on society. We are in a comment thread on lemmy where a guy made a joke and reference to what is indisputibly one of the most referenced revolutions in all of history.
The guy told a joke that made perfect sense to everyone who read it, except you, apparently. How you can continue to argue against the majority on something that is defined by the majority- I do not know.
Please. The French Revolution did have global impact in its own right, full stop. OP is being obtuse.
Invasion? What do you mean? The guillotine defeated the monarchy, not an invading force.
It’ll help me feel better.
