Maybe but everywhere, but it is certainly more common. Perhaps not best for a fire, but I recall the example of a domestic abuse situation where they were effectively trapped with no way to talk without raising suspicion.

I actually got to send that type of email to my boss.

Students set fire to toilet paper in the bathrooms. I emptied my water bottle onto the still glowing embers, took some pics, and tried to phrase my email to as close as to the show. (Don’t think anyone got the reference, but I had laugh)

Actually, you can text 911. Many counties have setup that service. We got it working quite early in the counties I worked EMS in because voice calls are often quite sketchy due to poor cell service. You can easily be somewhere that a voice call can’t work, but you just might have enough service to send text,

Also good for domestic violence and other situations where a voice call would make things worse.

Actually I got in a drunk fight with my SO and called the cops (not my finest moment) and then told them “nevermind.” They texted back to ask if I was really OK, if I was being coerced, etc. I was pretty impressed. I don’t drink anymore.

It really is. I can’t quite wrap my head around what makes calling and talking to someone such a struggle for an otherwise normal and healthy person. The most obvious answer is anxiety, but if your anxiety is to that point you really should be talking to a professional about it. …Which I guess would require calling them. You know what, nevermind this makes sense all of a sudden.

      • There’s a TV ad recently for a budgeting personal data vacuum app that has fake street interviews. One of the things the actor says is she can’t bring herself to call to cancel things so the app does it for her.

I’ve heard people online and in person say they can’t handle making phone calls but the idea that it’s so common it’s in an ad like it’s normal is crazy.
