Rollover says I just want to scroll videos. I would suggest loops but im have not used it and am not sure if it ever got to the point where it is federated.
(Title says it is from 2024, while picture has @2025, so I guess 22/01/2025 :D That darn calendar)
doh. I will go fix. One thing that is nice about the federation is you can edit mistakes in posting which reddit annoyingly blocked. now watch I will be blocked. you will know if the date corrects :)
The jury is still out on BlueSky, but I don’t think that’s going to go well.
Lemmy is plenty mindless, thank you.
We’re not really social media though.
Why not? A collection of links to things posted by people with comments from other people? Seems pretty social media to me.
So by that logic are old school forums or ms or bbs social media?
By forms, do you mean forums? If so, yes. If you mean like Google Forms, then no.
Yes sorry yeah I meant forums
Socialist media
Anti-social social media club club
That’s what I like about it.
Meh, we interact with other humans. I’d call that social.
Social is not the primary word in that phrase it’s Media. Media the primary function is passive. Where only a few engage those people are the media personalities or in new media influencers. Since lemmy is so small most people engage since is not big enough to be used to make money or influence people to make other people money. So lemmy acts more like old school forums with a big webring than social media.
I disagree. We are sharing media. Whether or not the poster has a large following or is making money is irrelevant. What matters is that we’re socializing, of a sort, by sharing media with one another.
While true and I can see where you are coming from. My logic is we are sharing media meaning this is not the media in of itself. If this is social media, do you consider a discussion board like the ones that use phpbb social media? Honest question.
Yeah. I see any kind of online platform where users interact with other users and share media of any sort to be social media, so forums and discussion boards would fall under that definition. Reddit and Lemmy aren’t much different from those types of forums. Granted, that is a very broad definition of social media, but the term itself is very vague.
Don’t forget reactionary!
Don’t forget beans!
I can’t believe you had the nerve to say that!
have a downvote! (not really)
If I’m a regular browser then it’s definitely dumbed down enough
Probably the most mindless!
Loops from Pixelfed. Literally a TikTok Clone https://loops.video/
Edit: Sorry I didn’t read your text under the Comic. Then nvm if you were already aware of Loops. Haha :D
TikTok was just a bad Vine clone, and I don’t want a bad TikTok clone I just want a good Vine clone! Because I’m old!
I really want to try Loops but I’ve never been able to successfully create an account.
Enter the username, email, password, validate your humanity, and then get a message to check my email for new instructions. The email never comes so I’m stuck. Can’t log in, can’t use the “forgot my password” function.
I was in the same situation, but eventually (like 3 days later?) the email did come. Idk if they’re manually processing it or what but it can be damn slow it seems.
I’m in the Discord for Loops, but not affiliated with it. The dev said they’re rate-limited by their email provider, so it does take a long time to go through the queue. The queue is also split between Pixelfed and Loops, since they have the same developer, so that slows things down even more.
It took about three days to get my invite as well, but it may be a bit faster now since I think the initial surge of signups has tapered off a bit.
It took like a week for me to get my email.
I have a Loops account; both of the videos there are pretty meh.
Seriously though, there is a giant lack of content there, I’ve gotten the feed to loop (heh) after about 30 minutes. Great, because it stops the doom scrolling, but doom scrolling is the entire purpose of the app…
Yeah I kind of expect that. I had messed around with Lemmy before, but I fully moved here when the RedditAPI drama happened and ended 3rd party apps. Lemmy has improved over time, but it’s still nowhere near the amount of content Reddit used to provide.
Same thing with Pixelfed vs Instagram/TikTok.
The only solution is to keep using it. Maybe try my own hand at making content on occasion.
honestly most social media like reddit had to much content in general but it is unfortunate that niche groups like fans of particular games or authors are not present. you sorta need everyone in the fandom or at least a good chunk to get it working.
so is loops federated now?
They’re still working on it. All the dev is by a single guy, who also runs Pixelfed. He says he’ll be open-sourcing the code soon so more people can contribute and help get things going, but he wants to finish getting the web interface working first. And apparently he’s been spending a lot of time keeping everything online during the surge of interest, which has slowed everything down.
Not following it closely but afaik on way to it, but not there yet.
Also doesn’t seem like there is an app for it?
There is, it’s currently email invite only. When you sign up they’ll email you a link to the APK.
If you can’t find shallow, mindless media on Bluesky then you’re not looking.
Also, just go on Rednote, ffs. I peaked in there and half the front page is just “Welcome Refugees! Learn hHow to monetize like you did on TikTok” which is soul-suckingly depressing and reminds me why I didn’t fuck with Instagram or TikTok to begin with.
