I posted asking for advice on looking for work and lot of suggestions said I should try networking. Well that hard to do at 46 and have no true friends or colleagues to reach out to. Now we all know about dating sites, but is there a open source site that is for meeting for friends, or even networking like LinkedIn but not so much bullshit?
If not how would one go about creating such a space?
Do you have hacker spaces or Linux user groups in your area?

Not open-source but we have local C++ meetings once a month and everything is done through https://www.meetup.com/. Try that, look at what’s available around you.
Also try coworking spaces to see if they organize meetings, and also fablabs if there are any where you live.
good question. depends a lot on location. and on where you want to go in your life. meeting like-minded people always helps but for that you have to know yourself first.
