You should watch this video detailing the SOP (standard process) of force feeding. Then you’ll understand why it’s considered torture, and why letting them do what they want to their own bodies is far far preferable.
Its not just a tube through the mouth to the stomach like you might assume.

I wasn’t asking a rhetorical question. I think letting these people starve, as opposed to force-feeding them, is arguably the right thing to do, but my impression is that that would be a view far out of the mainstream and I would be surprised to hear prominent human rights groups advocating it.
It’s a reasonable question though. Is it wrong to let people die when you’ve beaten out of them every reason to live?
