Can’t say I’ve ever worked with the steelworkers union personally but I’m friends with a former engineer that worked at one of their plants.
U.S. Steel was in trouble twenty years ago when they refused to upgrade and keep up with the times in terms of technology and kept with their old, busted manufacturing because “shareholder value” despite my friend trying to make them aware it all sucked. End result is what we’re seeing now due to corporate incompetence.
Also, the workers weren’t exactly the brightest either and even at his plant, they voted against their own interest all the freaking time where we were at.
And btw, steelworkers:
Same thing at paper mills. Hourly voting for people to take away their rights, futures, hope, etc. because ‘murica.
Mostly it’s because they were either temporarily embarrassed millionaires, but a good chunk of them were just racists too.
