It is a fork of LineageOS with Murena bloatware and very late security updates. Lineage (best for wide device support) and Graphene (best for security and actively fixing compatibility with apps) are much better choices.
Interesting. To what degree does it allow the software it’s running to be customized? Say, if I wanted to install and run dnscrypt on it or firejail the browser, would I be able to?
Check out your local marketplace. Many people bought it at discount during first batch and now selling for around 550€ because they figured they need Android or iOS
Looks like it has all the hardware covered, just need to install the software. Hopefully software will eventually support the hardware if it doesn’t out of the box. That’s my hope anyway.
Sure. I was more thinking about ergonomics. The, um, user interface isn’t exactly very phone-oriented. But maybe pluggable external HIDs can make up for that.
While “never” seems a little defeatist to me, it’s not like you’re currently wrong. I strongly suspect there’s more than a few unpleasant surprises lurking deep in Quamcomm’s firmware for example.
I know Google has a plethora of their own issues, but at least Gboard lets me say whatever the fuck I want, and it’s easy as hell to change the settings (there’s literally a shortcut on the keyboard that takes you to its settings).
Fairphone has the best support for flashing onto. I have a Purism Librem 5 because I like the hardware kill switches, but requires tinkering to optimize performance, and even then, the hardware is still a decade old.
I suppose that explains somewhat why the stupid swipe on this fucking phone is so dog shit.
I need a Linux phone. :/
Graphene OS
We all need a good Linux phone we can completely control the software on.
Built in an ethical country.
Whats /e/os up to these days? Anyone have expirence to speak on it? Pitch it to us, channel the late Billy Mays.

I’ve used iode for some time, which is similar, and it was great. I’m on GrapheneOS now and it’s also good. De-google Android is doing great for now.
Sigh. Yeah, that really vibe-coded it’s way right off the deep end. Fucking AI.
I kind of had the exact opposite of that in mind when I wrote my comment.
Wdym?
There are reports that the founder of the project Gaël Duval has had a bit on an AI-nyrism:
Refer to: https://feddit.dk/post/26068400/23217982
Was that just the founder or is that official for the project? Because my last stand is that /e/os have taken this stance:
Ah, so he goes with the state of the art. That’s reassuring. Good.
Correctly used AI is a great leverage for small companies.
Shame…
I actually like Apple a lot more than I thought I would. But swipe typing on it is absolute dog shirt.
You can install other keyboards, right?
Those suck even more
Jolla Phone (2026)
I have one, it is my daily driver, and I love it!
Sailfish OS has proprietary components and they were working with Russia, so I don’t trust them.
The only proprietary part is the UI, Harbour. The rest is open source.
They licensed the OS at one time to a russian company and broke it off when the hostilities began. Since then they have no ties to Russia at all.
Mine should be sent out soon!

You can run whatever you want or write. You get sudo.
Excellent. The price point of 700 Euro is a little spicy, but I certainly like everything else about it.

Thanks for the tip!
Cool, will be looking at this come upgrade time
I’m hoping the flipper one can be my new phone!
It’s a hella cool little device. Not sure how well it’d work as a phone, but I want one too.
Sim support : check
Microphone : check
Speaker : check
Bluetooth : check

Unfortunately if you want to use modern phone technologies you’ll never have complete control of the software

All the 3GPP tracking standards they don’t want you turning off
That too, although I had in mind something that wasn’t publicly available (if obscure) knowledge.
iOS supports third-party keyboards, if you’re willing to try a keyboard from the App Store.
