I have one. I got this pair of slippers as a present once, best alippers ever, I always wore them. Slip them off to go to bed one night, put them in their usual spot, next morning they are gone. Nothing else out of place or moved. My roommate was out of town and I was alone for the week. I tore the place apart trying to find them, checked everywhere, looked through all the trash. They were just gone, never to be seen again. Pretty sure it was a wizard.
Id look into sleep walking.
I got none of that, and have a hard time believing I did it just the once and never before or again and that I somehow got the slippers so far away and left them there that I never saw them again. It was a wizard.
On the probability scale wizard is low.
👍
I once had the exact opposite.
I voted Fidesz in 2010 with the hopes they will raise the age of consent. They lowered it to 12 if the older party is under 18.
I got so angry I was shaking, and veins on my forehead were visible, just like that meme. When I tried to sleep, it didn’t work. I still tried to at least try, so I lay in the bed, seeing the sun rising. Eventually I had to go to college, after that finished, I slept for like 20 hours, and accepted my fell for it again award (they also didn’t make it easier for college students to get apprenticeship, so ultimately I ended up without a college degree, as I couldn’t get anything due to a multitude of factors).
fake: op left his house
gay: sleeps in same bed with his brother
The twin bed was a separate bed next to his?
Double and twin beds can be confusing terminology for non-native speakers. Both words mean 2.
I’ve done something similar. Only once though. Sleep was like a straight up on/off switch with an instant jump in continuity awareness.
God how amazing it would be to have a sleep switch.
How would you turn it back on? It seems like you’re just talking abstractly about suicide.
God how amazing it would be to have a sleep switch.
Do you remember deciding to wake up this morning? Just do that
Since I’d be in a world where a sleep switch exists I’d expect a built in alarm system would exist with it as well.
Alarm broke
I pretty much have. When I decide it’s time to sleep, I just do. I just roll over on the “fall asleep” side, and then I’m gone.
It happened to me semi-regularly in childhood, and it’s even happened a couple times as an adult. I swear to god this is how we’re all supposed to be sleeping but we’re all kept awake by subsonic electronic whines or something
Same thing happened to me when I was 8
Grandparents lived in the country. Had the best night’s sleep there as a kid. Put it down to the country air.
Fresh air, zero light pollution, zero traffic or background noise.
The thing that took me longest to get used to after moving to the ciry was the noise, even in your backyard in the suburbs you can hear constant hum and drone, the occasional loud motorbike or distant ambulance.
That and never seeing the milky way again, sometimes on a new moon i can see like some stars in the scluster, but not the absolute cloud of endless stars you see when your 3hrs from the nearest city.
Maybe he’s had a good sleep. Children could sleep so easily and soundly. But it does sound like time really is perception.
I’ve had a similar experience except my eyes seem to be open? The first time it happened, I woke up and just stared at the ceiling. My mind was completely blank and it was very peaceful. I think I’ve done it for maybe one hour after realising what happened but it felt very quick. The second time it happened was on another occasion when i also stared at the ceiling. It seems to only happen when i stare at a completely white surface.
I have anendophasia which means I have little to no internal voice. Maybe I have done meditation by accident because of just how my mind works. When i do try to meditate, I don’t get a completely blank mind, but when i don’t even try I achieved it somehow.
Didn’t know there was a term for not having an internal voice. I’m actually kinda glad I don’t have one, seems like it would get annoying. I can make one when I try, but wouldn’t want that shit going on all the time.
I also think in pictures, movies, 3D scenes, and abstract concepts. Very rarely, like when I need to plan what to say, I might have words intertwined in my thoughts. The book Thinking in Pictures by Temple Grandin explains this well.
I THINK IN PICTURES. Words are like a second language to me. I translate both spoken and written words into full-color movies, complete with sound, which run like a VCR tape in my head. When somebody speaks to me, his words are instantly translated into pictures.
…
When I was a child and a teenager, I thought everybody thought in pictures. I had no idea that my thought processes were different.
…
When I do an equipment simulation in my imagination or work on an engineering problem, it is like seeing it on a videotape in my mind. I can view it from any angle, placing myself above or below the equipment and rotating it at the same time.
…
I create new images all the time by taking many little parts of images I have in the video library in my imagination and piecing them together.
…
To create new designs, I retrieve bits and pieces from my memory and combine them into a new whole. My design ability keeps improving as I add more visual images to my library. I add videolike images from either actual experiences or translations of written information into pictures.
…
When I recall something I have learned, I replay the video in my imagination.
…
Like me, the mnemonist had a visual image for everything he had heard or read. Luria writes, “For when he heard or read a word, it was at once converted into a visual image corresponding with the object the word signified for him.”
…
It wasn’t until I went to college that I realized some people are completely verbal and think only in words.
…
When I invent things, I do not use language. Some other people think in vividly detailed pictures, but most think in a combination of words and vague, generalized pictures.
…
I used to become very frustrated when a verbal thinker could not understand something I was trying to express because he or she couldn’t see the picture that was crystal clear to me.
…
Unlike those of most people, my thoughts move from videolike, specific images to generalization and concepts. For example, my concept of dogs is inextricably linked to every dog I’ve ever known. It’s as if I have a card catalogue of dogs I have seen, complete with pictures, which continually grows as I add more examples to my video library.
…
My memories usually appear in my imagination in strict chronological order, and the images I visualize are always specific. There is no generic, generalized Great Dane. However, not all people with autism are highly visual thinkers, nor do they all process information this way. People throughout the world are on a continuum of visualization skills ranging from next to none, to seeing vague generalized pictures, to seeing semi-specific pictures, to seeing, as in my case, in very specific pictures. I’m always forming new visual images when I invent new equipment or think of something novel and amusing. I can take images that I have seen, rearrange them, and create new pictures.
That’s not how sleep works. Also, i think i had this too at least once. Probably a memory glitch or something in the category of lucid dreaming (except not lucid).
Ive definitely woken up from dreams where i was getting ready for bed, and had to walk myself through my day back to bed. Like, i had a dream of an entire day
That’s called a false awakening. I’ve had those, and they go lucid when I realize I wasn’t in my own bathroom. Maybe yours was of the entire day?
In my experience those are really restful sleeps (probably because it means you’re dead tired) but I feel robbed of the drowsy stage regardless.
Was it an off switch or do you just forget the time it took you to fall asleep?
Had the same thing happen to me as a kid, however not the not tired part. Basically just went to bed like normal closed my eyes and bam morning. Never was able to reproduce it either.
I have had the opposite happen. I looked at the clock and it was like 800. I fall asleep, or at least feel like I did for a full night’s rest. Then when I open my eyes the clock reads 759. Still don’t have an explanation, maybe a stroke and I just misread the alarm clock originally.
time preseption is easily broken, it’s not a very good internal process, I took too much one time and in a single sentance sometime said to me I experienced years between the words just eons of space time melting through reality. but really I was just tripping balls.
So it’s ok to post this, but every sublemmy will ban me (or at least remove my comment) if I type the r-word? What a bunch of hypocrites.
You can’t use the hard r
I beg to differ, by the logic used to justify the use of the f- and n- words by their respective groups, “I can say it because it was used against me.”
As a neurodivergent American child from the 90s, “that’s our word, we can say it.”
I was just trying to be silly. I don’t say it like I did when I was 16, but I’m in the same boat (queer 90s neuro xenial). Never say it maliciously, try to be conscious of today’s environment, and my kids get on my ass if I do it anyway. But the joke was supposed to be retard with a ‘hard R,’ as a play on, You know, the other one with a hard R. I know not very funny and I’m probably going to get down down voted just cuz I typed out the word but, apparently my attempt at humor needs an explanation which I suppose makes it not funny anyways. Sorry if I offended anyone in advance.
I thought we were past self censorship of the internet
Never had that while sleeping, but I’ve found myself sort of becoming aware in random places when I was a kid.
Fake: Anon has no grandma
Gay: Anon’s brother hypnotized him the other night, and installed a sleep trigger while removing any memory of being hypnotized. Then, when Anon lays in bed looking at his brother, he then triggers the sleep command, and then Anon passes out instantly. Then his bother molests Anon in his sleep. Then Anon wakes up, thinking it was all at an instant.
