Google last year was the most profitable company in the history of humanity. Analysts expected it to continue to grow

Perpetual growth expectations are absurd. There is no level of profit they’ll be satisfied with

Why can’t companies operate on a sustainable revenue model? Why does it always need to be constant growth year over year?

They can. They won’t go out of business or anything, they’ll do just fine.

Their stock won’t be valued at 1000x earnings tho, and their CEOs will stop becoming billionaires from stock options. They’ll also stop being the main driving force of the US stock increases.

They’ll also have to start giving out dividends and become real companies, not just a promise.

it’s because it’s literally illegal for fiduciary actors to NOT persue the highest profits possible. this is the CORE REASON AMERICAN CAPITALISM IS AN OROBOROS

Because investors make the most money on the value of the company increasing. The higher the revenue, the higher the value of the company.

since the late 90’s. I mean its always been the case but then it got sorta stupid and the mentality just grew and grew.

It’s almost like flooding your ad saturated platform with AI content, while simultaneously punishing and alienating genuine creators, is a bad idea.

They need to stop having unrealistic expectations of constant growth. But tell that to any cancer and see where it gets you.

Capitalism, like all pyramid schemes, requires constant exponential growth in order to function. It can be temporarily allayed with reforms, but if you miss the mark to transition it to socialism, it just is cancer and will kill whatever society it has infected.

It’s a terrible fact it’s a necessary step in societal development, but we have long since found the cure and roughly the right time to excise the tumor.

My ad blocker still skips them.

What it doesn’t block is shorts. I need something to block those too.

There’s a few browser plug-ins that will try to block em. But shorts still creep through sometimes…they’re insidious

I’ve jumped ship to nebula and dropout. Spending less money for what I actually want and also getting zero ads and slop.

When I read stuff like this, I realize people use YouTube very differently to me. I follow creators and those creators are not on other platforms. This means that jumping ship to other platforms is not an option unless I want to start watching 90% new stuff.

I also already watch stuff on Nebula & Dropout in addition to the YouTube creators I enjoy.

Oh that’s the thing. 95% of all the creators I enjoy are already on one of those two platforms.

I have to actually be thankful to the flood of AI slop content in my feed.

It was the final push I needed to stop trying to randomly browse YouTube and use my time in more interesting ways.

YouTube tried to feed me a Caesar Milan video (abusive dog trainer, may not have spelled his name correctly), so I pulled it up in order to block the channel.

There was no way to block it. Now YouTube thinks I like that asshole.
