BRASILIA, Brazil — Brazil on Friday gave social media giant Meta 72 hours to explain its fact-checking policy for the country, and how it plans to protect fundamental rights on its
It’s so disappointing. India has a massive tech service industry and could’ve been a force for good, but the government loves their censorship and authoritarianism too much.
It also helps that unlike the R and the C in BRICS, they aren’t imperialists threatening and/or invading their neighbours. Brazil is a good world citizen.
I fully agree that Bolsonaro was a straight up demon, but I also agree with the idea that - currently - the administration of Brazil is probably about as good an example of a good world citizen as it gets
Abso-fucking-lutely not. Fascists would NEVER be able to gain power in a truly democratic society. No ifs, ands or butts.
Fascists are funded into power (and into existence) by CAPITALISTS - adherents to an ideology that is violently incompatible with anything that can be called democratic with a straight face.
Brazil is not a democratic society. It is a (so-called) “liberal democracy” - something that can be more accurately described as 95% capitalism with some fake democracy substitute thrown in as a legitimising measure.
You’re pinning for a system that prevents fascism, but it doesn’t exist. You prevent it through other sociological structures. The method for selecting power can’t do what you want it to do.
But by all means, keep trying to bait people online, I’m sure that helps you somehow.
The old system of using fact-checking agencies was biased, and the content they deemed false had its reach negatively impacted. They were literally the arbiters of truth, and their actions silenced their political opponents’ voices. The new system of Community Notes is superior because it requires approval from people with diverse political alignments to show a fact-check to everyone.
because its not a country we’ve flagged as “Evil Enemy Run By Inhuman Savages”.
Unless the subject is Amazon deforestation, in which case we have to stop these inhuman savages from destroying this global patrimony (mine). Please don’t ask who’s buying the cattle and soy being grown there or running the mining companies or where I got all this fertile land.
Brazil has been on it lately. At least with sticking it to tech bros
Yeah, they found out they could win, when they stuck it to X and straight up banned them until they complied.
Just like the big tech companies have different ToS for EU consumers.
Mad respect to them, but it should be normal. But it’s not.
Also like California passing public health laws and companies deciding it is easier to comply to the entire U.S. instead of duplicating product lines.
Same State for car emission standards as well. Too bad our cities are shit holes because of all the car infrastructure though.
All the BRICS have. Brazil just stands out, because its not a country we’ve flagged as “Evil Enemy Run By Inhuman Savages”.
Not India afaik
Or south Africa.
Not all, India is in BRICS and they are part of the problem in the tech world.
It’s so disappointing. India has a massive tech service industry and could’ve been a force for good, but the government loves their censorship and authoritarianism too much.
The limited view I have into the CEO culture there seems even more toxic than America’s.
It also helps that unlike the R and the C in BRICS, they aren’t imperialists threatening and/or invading their neighbours. Brazil is a good world citizen.
Uhhh, did you forget that Brazil was being run by a fascist war criminal just a short while ago?
IT’S BEEN 4 YEARS WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN??
So were lots of countries. At least they learned from their mistake, unlike the US.
If Brazil had learned from it’s mistake it WOULDN’T HAVE ALLOWED A FASCIST INTO POWER, genius.
I meant it in the “fool me once” sense. Americans went for a second helping at the trough of fascism.
The US has been pro-fascist long, long before Mussolini gave it a name.
And now it isn’t, that’s democracy, baby

That is THE WHOLE POINT of liberalism.
Save it for the next fascist your (supposedly) “democratic” system siccs on you, liberal.

As long as it keeps censoring its citizens, everthing fine! 🙄
Eh?
Fact checking is censorship apparently.
The old system of using fact-checking agencies was biased, and the content they deemed false had its reach negatively impacted. Because remember you need a Nazi and a tankie to agree with facts in order for it to be the real truth.
Sometimes reality doesn’t align with political views. Doesn’t mean it’s not facts
So you’re set to automatically complain unless the fact-check aligns perfectly with your worldview?

Idk which video was, but Brazil tremendously improved on the Amazon deforestation issue. https://youtu.be/6gI-wKbKfeI
You have a cool profile!
Aww thank you!
Yes, a lot of things changed for the better once they got rid of Bolsonaro
