This kind of shit was so common before the Internet. Encyclopedias would have completely wrong information or would cite just one source that was outdated.
The way Wikipedia does stuff is so much better.
you realize that’s how printed media works, right?
if you read a book from 1960, it won’t have any info from the past 60 years. what they do, is typically re-issue the book with the new info every 5-20 years, depending.
they are putting out new editions of books i read in college 20 years ago, that include updated citations and scholarship.
Yes. The way Wikipedia does it is so much better.
wikipedia only exists because of other people’s scholarship.
it’s not a primary or original source.
The average human will eat an average of eight spiders a year while asleep.
is false. 2 things about that are great: That it is false, and that i now know who circulated this bullshit lol
“average person eats 3 spiders a year” factoid actualy just statistical error. average person eats 0 spiders per year. Spiders Georg, who lives in cave & eats over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
Spiders, of course, being notorious for liking small dark moist places devoid of the things they eat…
It’s weird to me that anybody ever believed that one.
It says average. Jimmy Spider-Snacker developed narcoleptic sleep eating and really affected the mean.
If you sleep-eat a spider egg sack as they’re hatching, that really ups the numbers too
Would you like something to drink? We have water, milk, juice, spiders, Dr Pepper…
I’d like the new Dr Pepper Spider Bonanza please.

Which half does this one belong to?
TIL Snapple apparently still exists. I haven’t seen Snapple since the early 90s.
I see the teas and juices nearly everywhere in California. I regularly get the peach tea myself because it’s way better than an Arizona Iced Tea. I mean, you can actually taste tea in Snapple.
Huh. TIL it left at least one place. What part of the world are you in?
Cleveland
Interesting. Still widely available in the Pacific Northwest
It isn’t a big thing in the Southast U.S. I used to get reminded of it every time I flew into JFK or got a dollar slice somewhere in NYC. It seemed many of them used to have a fridge that was just Snapple or water, but it’s been years since I’ve been up there. I doubt dollar slices even exist now : /
those are fun to read, cool.
caller id is illegal in California
There is no law against Caller ID in the state, though there were lengthy debates about making it illegal in the early 1990s.
I genuinely cannot remember or understand why this was a debate. How much money were call centers throwing at politicians?
It doesn’t look like it was a lobbying thing. More a pro privacy thing. A ton of Californians had unlisted numbers and didn’t want to be revealed, or victims could be tracked by their abusers through caller ID, and privacy advocates said that people shouldn’t have their number public without their consent.
but they couldn’t figure out how to regulate it properly, so the issue was eventually dropped.
that’s why fruitopia is superior
I get all my facts from Laughy Taffy.
but bubble tape is six feet of fun for you not them
When I was a curious teenager I put my wiener in the mouth of a Snapple bottle, and then flew into a panic when it expanded and the bottle got stuck.
Just use a hammer and whack it off.
The cylinder must not be damaged
I usually would, but there was a bottle in the way.
nah, wait this is awesome!
Coulda been worse. I heard about someone who as a kid put a really strong elastic band used to castrated bulls on their weiner. After being unable to pee they finally told their parents. The emergency room had trouble figuring out how to cut it off without causing damage… But they did successfully.
Seems odd. I even carry ring cutters on my belt; I’m sure an emergency room has even more options available.
The main problem is that you use a tool to get the thing on, and then it constricts a LOT. You could think of it as such a tight ring that you would have a hard time seeing it around all the swollen flesh.

Snapple sat on a throne of lies (the throne was also a lie)
Made from the best stuff on earth?
On the ENTIRE earth? For $3 a bottle?!
To be fair, Earth does have a lot of good stuff.
idk whats Snapple but this was interesting to read
a soft drink that was big in the 90s due to a quirky and effective advertising campaign.
you barely see it around anymore.
Big in the US in the 90s. It was not big in the 90s here, because it didn’t exist at all.
okay ty
I just wish they’d bring back their root beer. Man, that shit was good.
Snapple had a root beer? :O
Yeah, it was clear and my memories tell me it was tasty.
Sooo 25?
