They want a global nuclear strike capability that doesn’t rely on making the US do the threat for them.

Also probably a faster nuclear deployment time against Pakistan or I guess any other nuclear power.

Space is a neutral zone like the Antarctic. Like they have any right to bring weaponry over there.

Rather than having weaponry to protect Earth against external threats like asteroids, they’d point the weapons inwards to oppress the population of Earth.

This administration should be dismantled as soon as possible. It’s toxic to the world.

What, a fine upstanding state like Israel? Never.

I didn’t read the article, I would assume no one reading it is dumb enough to think Israel has any intention of using weapons deployed in space for anything other than killing Muslim schoolchildren. And probably eventually Jewish schoolchildren who’s parents don’t align with Zionism.

And you’d be correct. The only reason Israel is a tech powerhouse is them having a captive and defenseless population in which to field-test anything they come up with, AND THEN have everything paid for by the US taxpayer.

When they say they are planning to develop them, what they mean is that they are planning to make their existence public. You should assume Jewish Space Lasers are literally a thing today.

Nope, a space laser is a stupid weapon.

A system of kinetic impactors would be far more practical.

To be fair the article says “Space Weapons”, not necessarily lasers, so something stupid and destructive like dropping some kinda mass payload from low orbit would also count.

Hang on, isn’t “the only reason we (US) haven’t done that is because it’s illegal and also I’m pretty sure we’ve secretly done that already?”

I mean, it’s clear international law no longer applies but isn’t this another example of that?

She has some terrible ideas, but the way they smeared her over this reminds me how they attacked Mamdani calling him an antisemitic Jihadist. Sad so many people on the left merely parroted their pro-genocide AIPAC politicians at the time.

Dude, fuck off. Marjorie Taylor Greene is a white supremacist. She was talking about nonsensical antisemitic conspiracy theories she got off of social media (she was blaming US wildfires on “Jewish space lasers”). Do not try to “well, ackshually” her with this revisionist garbage. She never had a point, and anything resembling one was accidental.

Edit: Oh, you’re one of those Jill Stein assholes. That actually checks out.

Our electoral laws naturally result in a two-party system with (for the last century) the Democrats as the relative left and Republicans as the relative right. There are only two other parties that have any significance at all - the Green Party, which is ecologically focused party that backs renewable energy as their main feature, but is also very socially liberal; and the Libertarian Party, which is like the Republicans except they’re in favor of legalizing recreational drugs and abolishing even more regulations than the Republicans.

Jill Stein has been the head of the Greens since 2012 or so. Under Stein’s leadership, the Greens don’t really run for any offices other than President. Despite their platform being very popular in Democrat dominated areas, sometimes more popular than the actual Democrat platform, they almost never make a real attempt to run for city or state positions. Instead, the Green Party almost exclusively runs in the presidential election, and exclusively fields Jill Stein as their candidate. Due to our archaic first-past-the-post system, having two candidates on the relative left makes it easier for a candidate on the relative right to win, even if a majority of voters would prefer a relative left candidate, due to the votes getting split. The Greens also make bigger pushes in what are expected to be closer elections, spending more money and maintaining a larger media presence, siphoning votes from the Democratic candidate despite never having done better in a presidential election than 2.7% of all votes. However, in areas that flip parties frequently, that percentage is higher and they often function as a spoiler candidate, handing what should be a close win for a Democrat to an easy win for a Republican.

Stein herself has also been seen at events with Putin, has repeated Russian propaganda about Ukraine and NATO, and has been investigated by the FBI for possible collusion with the Russian government to interfere in US elections.

“And my own connection to RT, you know ironically, it takes a Russian television station to actually be open to independent candidates in this country and that is a shame. A shameful commentary on our own media,” she told NBC’s Alex Seitz-Wald

From what I understand it’s only WMDs that are internationally banned from space, while obviously a rather distasteful thing to do it’s not unlawful to put conventional weapons in space. The Soviets armed some of their space stations with autocannon for example, which isn’t even the best example of their space programme making Bond villains everywhere look like complete scrubs.

No one was ever going to respect such an agreement. This stuff has been in the works for a while. Russia looks like it’s testing out it’s own satelite killing tech as we speak as well.
